The IPL 2023 season has become the Injured Premier League because the list of injured players is more than the total number of players in a cricket team. It is saddening that so many quality players have been missing from this IPL and thus the charm of the IPL has been taken away a little. It is not a good look when a tournament is known for the injured players and almost every team has suffered one or more injuries.
Some injuries happened before the IPL started and there was not enough time for them to recover before the IPL started and a few players were injured during the matches which was devastating to see as a cricket fan. Hopefully there are no more injuries to any other player during the IPL this season.
So, let’s look at all the list of injured players in IPL 2023:
Mumbai Indians
Jasprit Bumrah
Jasprit Bumrah is probably the biggest name that was injured before the IPL and he was injured long before the IPL as he has not been able to play for India for a long period of time. He has a back injury which is common to fast bowlers and he will require time to get back to playing for India. Mumbai Indians will miss his services this season and IPL will be poorer without him.
Jhye Richardson
The Australian fast bowler is also one of those players who are missing the IPL due to an injury. The extent of the injury is not known but it looks like he will be gone for the next 2-3 months which means he will miss the whole IPL as well as some matches for Australia.
Chennai Super Kings
Mukesh Chaudhary
This promising left arm pacer from India is also missing the IPL this season as a result of a back injury which has kept him out of cricket for a period of time. He was working hard to get for the IPL this season but the severity of the bank injury was so severe that he could not recover in time and he missed a chance to prove himself hey again.
Kyle Jamieson
Kyle Jamieson of New Zealand was ruled out of the IPL long before the IPL even began and he was also ruled out of a back injury which he was unable to heal in time for the tournament and he will be a big blow for CSK as he was a great Bowler all throughout the innings.
Royal Challengers Bangalore
Will Jacks
Will Jacks is one of the major blows for the RCB team through injury as the RCB team paid good money for him and he would have been an important player for them. The injury is not known but it is being said that for the next 2 months he will not be able to play cricket.
Rajat Patidar
This is one of those injures that happened during the tournament. Even though he did not play the first match he was still a part of the team and Rajat Patidar had unfortunately suffered an Achilles heel injury and he has been ruled out of the IPL and this is a major blow as he was their number 3 batter in their team.
Josh Hazlewood
The Australian fast bowler has Injured his Achilles heel and hence he has been ruled out for the first half of the IPL as of now and the status for his availability for the second half of the IPL will be decided a few weeks from now. Josh Hazlewood was an important fast bowler for RCB.
Reece Topley
This is one of those freak injuries that can happen at anytime as Reece Topley was Injured in the first match of the IPL for RCB. He Injured his shoulder and was taken off the field but it looks like he will be back soon so that is good news for the team who have been hit the most by injuries.
Delhi Capitals
Rishabh Pant
This is the only injury in this list that could have been life threatening and by the Grace of God Rishabh Pant is still with all of his fans. On December 30 last year he had a horrific car accident and he has been badly Injured since shd he will take more than a year to recover and Delhi Capitals will miss him the most this season. All of his fans hope him a speedy recovery.
Punjab Kings
Jonny Bairstow
This is one of those injuries that is still hard to fathom as to how such a freak injury can happen to a player while playing golf and he was badly Injured several months ago when he fell on his leg and since then he has been out of cricket. Punjab Kings will miss him a lot because he was the star at the top of the order.
Rajasthan Royals
Prasidh Krishna
Rajasthan Royals are such a strong team that the loss of this talented fast bowler will not affect them much and they are the only one on this list that can say that. Prasidh Krishna was Injured because he had a stress fracture and he will miss the IPL which could have been a great opportunity for him to get into the Indian team again.
Gujarat Titans
Kane Williamson
This is the most unfortunate injury and one that could have been avoided as Kane Williamson Injured his knee very badly in the first match of the IPL when he tried to save a ball from going for a six end as a result of that he was ruled out of the IPL. Gujarat Titans have got a great replacement in Dasun Shanaka.
Kolkata Knight Riders
Shreyas Iyer
Perhaps the biggest blow to any team from this list of injuries has to be Kolkata Knight Riders because they lost their captain and their best batter through a back injury which he suffered in the test series vs Australia. He will miss the entire IPL as well as the final of the World Test Championship and KKR have been dealt a big blow.
