Biggest Disappointments of IPL 2023

This season of the IPL has been the best in terms of the quality of cricket it has seen and the level of batting and the level of six hitting has been top notch and there have been lots of players who gave stepped up and they have showed why they are the best in the world and a lot of young players as well stepped up and showed that they are ready for the next level. However, that was not the case for everyone as there were multiple players who are very important or who have been paid a lot of money and they have been the biggest disappointments of the season.

Let’s look at the Top 5 Biggest Disappointments in IPL 2023 and hopefully these players will be able to bounce back in IPL next year.

1) Harry Brook (Sunrisers Hyderabad)

It will not be wrong to say that the biggest let down of this IPL has been Harry Brook from England. This young batter has all the potential in the world and he was coming from a very good English season and the SRH team paid over 13 crores for him and if the one 100 he made is left out then he did absolutely nothing in this IPL and that has been so disappointing. He played 11 Matches this season and the total runs he made were only 190 and one of them was a hundred so in the other 10 he only made 90 which is truly bad. Hopefully he comes back better in his second season.

2) Andre Russell (Kolkata Knight Riders)

After years of having incredible seasons in the IPL it finally looks like age and lack of playing has caught up with him because he was an abject failure for the KKR team and all their fans are so disappointed in him so much so that the KKR team has had talks whether he should be retained going forward. He made only 227 runs from 14 IP Matches which is so bad and he had not one match winning contribution and Rinku Singh took his role this year. He has to come back stronger next year or his future with KKR will be untenable.

3) Prithvi Shaw (Delhi Capitals)

He is the biggest Indian let down in this IPL by a mile because he was so poor in the whole IPL season and he showed no effort to get better pr improve his fitness. He was dropped from the side this year as well after a string of poor performances. He played in 8 IPL Matches which tells everyone that he was left out for 6 Matches and this should eat him alive because him and Shubman Gill were seen as equals and now Gill us at the top of world cricket. He only made 106 runs in his 8 Innings at an average of 13 and a strike rate of 125. Hopefully he learns from this and comes back a much better player.

4) Dinesh Karthik (Royal Challengers Bangalore)

The biggest reason RCB did not qualify for the playoffs was this man and the absolute lack of form that he showed throughout the IPL and it looked like he had forgotten how to bat or how to hit sixes. As a fan of DK it was hard to watch what he was doing this season as in the 13 Matches this season he only made 140 runs at a strike rate of 134 which is bad. He should retire from the IPL and commentate from next year because he is very good at it and he will add valuable insight to the team.

5) Sam Curran (Punjab Kings)

The most expensive player In the history of the IPL had a disappointing season according to the standards he had set for the world as he was the man of the tournament in the last T20I World Cup. He was neither good with the bat or with the ball and he felt the pressure of the price tag which was very obvious and he only took 10 wickets at an economy of 10+ which is not acceptable in this format. Hopefully he can be back at his best next year.
