Openers are a very important part of the T20 game especially in the IPL, the teams need good openers who will give them a solid foundation at the top of the order and hence the openers will be in big demand in the IPL auction.
Having a good opener in any team is almost a big part of the job done as they will lay the foundation on which the team will lay on. There are many World class openers to look out for in the IPL auction, however we will only look at the top 5 of the lot.
1. David Warner -
One of the greatest ever IPL openers is back once again in the auction and a lot of the teams would be going for him. He is a 500 run bank in most seasons of the IPL and very consistent as well so every team would want someone like him at the top of the order. David Warner provides leadership as well and he can guide the other young openers in the team to bring out the best In then. Whichever team is able to pick him up, they will be at a strong advantage as compared to others.

2. Devdutt Padikkal -
This young and extremely talented left handed opener put the world on notice in the previous IPL seasons and many teams would want a left handed Indian opener in their team who can play throughout the innings as well as be aggressive while doing it. He is a rare talent and the team that gets him would consider themselves lucky and make him a mainstay of their IPL team going forward.
3. Jonny Bairstow -
In the seasons that he has played in Sunrisers Hyderabad, he has shown how good of an opener he is , creating a huge impact in such a short period of time and destroying the opposition bowlers with ease and being so consistent while doing it. He can hit sixes at will and score big hundreds and single handedly win matches for his team so teams would go for him in the auction coming up and be can fetch big money as well.
4. Faf Du Plessis -
He is the best opener in IPL at the moment along with Ruturaj and his performances in the previous seasons for CSK should be enough for him to secure a good deal in the auction and the wealth of experience he brings to the table will also be invaluable for the team he goes in next. He has kept getting better with age and that’s scary for his opponents so the teams would look to go for him for at least the next 3 years.
5. Shubman Gill -
He is one opening batter that a lot of teams will go for looking at his extraordinary talent and the pedigree he has established in such a short period of time as well. Shubman Gill has played great innings for KKR in the past 4 seasons and has improved year on year and the teams would want a great young Indian opener who can also be groomed for future captaincy role in the years to come.
