The four-time IPL winners and the defending IPL champions, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) finally opened their account in the points table in the IPL 2022 last Tuesday (12th April) night. During that night, CSK cricketers Robin Uthappa and Shivam Dube created history by recording the highest partnership for the third wicket in IPL history.
It was the 22nd match in the IPL 2022, where CSK faced Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at Dr DY Patil Sports Academy (Mumbai). After RCB chose to field first, CSK lost their first two wickets in seven overs as the opener Ruturaj Gaikwad (17 runs) and no.3 English batter Moeen Ali (3) lost their wickets cheaply.
But the experienced opener Robin Uthappa controlled that innings with Shivam Dube and carried a giant record-breaking third-wicket partnership to set a big match-winning total.

Uthappa and Dube set up the 165 runs partnership for that third wicket which continued till 18.5 overs of that innings. When Uthappa finally lost his wicket to Wanindu Hasaranga after scoring 88 runs off 50 balls (4 fours and 9 sixes), CSK already managed to score 201/3. Soon, Dube finished that innings with a score of 95 not out off 46 balls (5 fours and 8 sixes) as CSK scored 216/4 in 20 overs.
After the 10th over of that innings, CSK managed to score more than 10 runs in every over. Uthappa and Dube were unstoppable that night as they broke the previous record of IPL best partnership for the third wicket. The previous record in that category was 157 runs partnership between Deccan Chargers’ cricketers Cameron White and Kumar Sangakkara against Pune Warriors India at Cuttack on 1st May 2012.
