IPL 2024 has just started and the cricket world has been unsurprisingly following this event. While star cricketers and top players enjoy this tournament every year with their strong cricket performances, it is also a tight challenge for the top-class international coaches. Handling an IPL team makes the stronger resume for the coaches and it becomes powerful with success for an IPL team.
IPL is ruthless for the coaches, if a coach doesn't
deliver results then the owners of the IPL teams don't hesitate to release the coach. Some IPL teams remove their coaches after just one unsuccessful season, and others give their support staff a few years before taking any ultimate decision. The IPL 2024 has experienced some really big changes in the coaching staff.
In this article, we will see all the coaches for IPL 2024.
Lucknow Super Giants - Justin Langer
Royal Challengers Bengaluru – Andy Flower
Royal
Challengers Bengaluru have also changed their
coaching staff. They released head coach Sanjay Bangar and former head coach and Director of Cricket Operations Mike Hesson, and they have secured the services of
Andy Flower. Rajasthan Royals were also in the running for Flower, but RCB
acted fast and signed him. Apart from winning the ICC World T20 2010 and three successive Ashes titles (including one away) for England, coach Andy Flower also celebrated with a PSL title for Multan Sultans. The former Zimbabwean cricketer was also popular for his teams' successes in The Hundred, CPL, and the IPL for Lucknow Supergiants. He would like to change the RCB team and build a team for the future.
Sunrisers Hyderabad – Daniel Vettori
This
change was expected because SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) finished at the bottom of the IPL 2023. Caribbean legend Brian Lara was one of the greatest cricketers of all time, but the IPL is ruthless and only the
results matter to the owners. So, Lara was let go by the franchise. As the new head coach, New Zealand great Daniel Vettori joined the side. Vettori will have the
hard task of getting the team together and building a squad to challenge the IPL 2024 title. It is his comeback to the IPL as a
coach after a few years and he is ready for this tough challenge.
Kolkata Knight Riders – Chandrakant Pandit
Chandrakant Pandit joined Kolkata Knight Riders as the head coach before the IPL 2023. Although KKR finished seventh place at the IPL 2023, the team has complete faith in him for the IPL 2024. KKR's two-time IPL-winning captain, Gautam Gambhir, has also joined the franchise as a mentor for the IPL 2024. The former Indian cricketer, Chandrakant Pandit, is one of the most successful coaches in Indian domestic cricket where he was not only successful for the Mumbai cricket team but also guided Vidarbha (2018 and 2019) for their two successive Ranji Trophy titles and Madhya Pradesh for their maiden Ranji Trophy success (2022).
Chennai Super Kings – Stephen Fleming
The same man has been the coach for more than a decade. Since 2009, after he retired from the game, the legendary New Zealand cricketer Stephen Fleming has been coaching the Chennai Super Kings. When the CSK were suspended for two years (2016 and 2017), Fleming was the head coach of Rising Pune Supergiants. One of the successful T20 coaches, Fleming has shined with five IPL titles and two Champions League T20 trophies for CSK.
Mumbai Indians – Mark Boucher
Before the IPL 2023, the former South African wicketkeeper Mark Boucher replaced legendary Sri Lankan cricketer Mahela Jayawardene in the coaching role for Mumbai Indians. While Mumbai Indians finished as the third-best team in the IPL 2023, Boucher and Mumbai Indians are desperate to set up a strong new generation for this successful IPL franchise.
Delhi Capitals – Ricky Ponting
The legendary Australian captain Ricky
Ponting has been the head coach of the Delhi Capitals since the 2018 season. It
is his 7th season with the Delhi Capitals. Although Ponting's Delhi Capitals haven't won an IPL trophy yet, they appeared in the playoffs in three straight seasons (2019, 2020, and 2021), and finished as the runners-up in the IPL 2020. Ponting is a firm and a no-nonsense coach, and he always wants results for all the efforts he has been putting in. The return of Rishabh
Pant will be a big boost for the entire Delhi Capitals squad.
Gujarat Titans – Ashish Nehra
Since Gujarat Titans were formed as a team before the IPL 2022, former Indian left-arm pacer Ashish Nehra has been the head coach of the team. He has been the biggest
revelation as a coach with his hands-on approach and the way he is standing
around the boundary in every match. His Gujarat Titans won the IPL 2022, and they were a ball away
from winning the IPL trophies back to back. Nehra
can also be a serious contender for the future Indian national cricket team coaching role.
Punjab Kings – Trevor Bayliss
Before the IPL 2023, Trevor Bayliss replaced Anil Kumble as the head coach of the Punjab Kings (PBKS). Although Punjab Kings finished in eighth place in the IPL 2023, the franchise has huge faith in this one of the successful coaches. Apart from KKR's two IPL titles, Bayliss has experienced Sydney Sixers' BBL 2011/12 and CLT20 2012 successes, England's ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 success, etc.
Rajasthan Royals – Kumar Sangakkara
Since 2021, Legendary Sri Lankan cricketer Kumar Sangakkara has been working with Rajasthan Royals. He is not only working as the head coach, but he is also a Director of Cricket for the team, who is responsible for the entire ecosystem of the team. The IPL 2024 is his fourth IPL season for Rajasthan Royals. He has produced good results for the team, as his team was the runners-up in the IPL 2022. Sangakkara has built one of the best
teams in the IPL. He has the respect of all the players in his team. Sangakkara will look to add the IPL title to his resume.
