Run chases in any format is nice to see and especially teams chasing a huge total set by the team batting first. And run chases in T20 Internationals are more entertaining to witness.
T20 Internationals are where the best play against the best and we get to see the best batsman and the best bowlers square it out for their countries. And the best part is seeing a team who has conceded huge amount of runs bowling first chasing down a total which is considered out of their reach and the fans get to see high skill and determination.
It would be Interesting to see which teams have been successful in chasing the biggest totals in T20 Internationals:
1. Australia (245):
This score by Australia is the highest and most successful run chase in the history of T20 Internationals. The match took place in Auckland in 2018 and while bowling first the Aussies conceded 243 runs with Martin Guptill hitting a wonderful century and it seemed Australia will not be able to chase this mammoth total but every one of the Aussie batters contributed with David Warner scoring 99 and D’Arcy Short scoring 76 runs and they chased it with 7 balls still remaining in the innings. It was a remarkable chase and very seldom we see this kind of a run chase.

2. West Indies (236):
West Indies played South Africa at Johannesburg in 2015 and that is where they chased a massive score of 232 runs and won the game with 4 balls still left. South Africa hit 231 runs in the match with Faf Du Plessis playing a wonderful captain’s knock of 119 runs and it seemed that South Africa had enough but no one should ever count the West Indies side out in T20 Internationals and with the help of the Universe Boss Chris Gayle and the rest of the destructive batting order they have they managed to chase this huge score down.
3. England (230):
This incredible run chase came during the T20 World Cup in 2016 which was held in India. It was England vs South Africa in Mumbai and South Africa posted a mammoth 229 in their 20 overs and it was considered more than enough as it was a world Cup game and batting second would be pressure. England on the other hand said no to pressure and went on about the chase and Joe Root led the way with a brilliant 83 runs in just 44 balls and the other batters chipped in around him and England won the match with just 2 balls to spare. It was a treat for the fans to watch this run chase as it was the turning point in English white ball cricket.
4. England (226):
Again it’s England vs South Africa and again it’s England who put the hurting on their opponents but this time in their own backyard in Johannesburg. This happened in 2020, South Africa while the battery first put a formidable total of 222 on the board which looked a lot especially considering it was their home . England as usual came out all guns blazing and Jos Buttler, Jonny Bairstow and Eoin Morgan hit great half centuries to guide England home with 5 balls to spare.
5. Bangladesh (215):
This night surprised many people but Bangladesh chased such a Massive total against Sri Lanka in Colombo in 2018. Sri Lanka while batting first hit a daunting 214 runs on the board and it looked Bangladesh would not be able to chase them as they were known for doing this but to everyone’s surprise they batted superbly with Mushfiqur Rahim leading the way with a fabulous 74 runs and the Bangla tigers won with 2 deliveries to spare.
