There are retirements that are announced in WWE from time to time. However John Cena is not just anyone in WWE history. What Stone Cold and The Rock were to the Attitude Era, John Cena was to the era after 2002. He is the sole reason that millions of fans in India and around the world became WWE fans. John Cena is a name that the mothers of WWE fans knew about even if they did not know anything else about WWE. John Cena announcing his retirement is one of the biggest announcements of 2024.

Ever since last year when he had that run against The Bloodline, it was evident that John Cena was not at his best and he realized that it was time to leave the WWE and make way for future generations. However he has been the face of WWE for 20 years and fans needed time to prepare themselves for his retirement. He is a 16 time WWE Champion which is the joint most in history. John Cena had said in interviews when promoting his movies that his WWE retirement was imminent. He has a big Hollywood career in front of him. He is playing Peacemaker in the DCU which is one of the biggest roles. John Cena said that he would love to win his 17th World Championship and break the all time record.


John Cena knew that he would have to have a special retirement tour and what he is giving us is way more than any fan could have hoped for. He announced that he will have a full year run for the last time in 2025 from January to December. His first show in 2025 will be the first Raw to stream on Netflix in January 2025. Then he will take part in the 2025 Royal Rumble, 2025 Elimination Chamber. WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas will be his last WrestleMania as an in ring competitor. He will be there in WWE even after that for Money in the Bank, SummerSlam, Survivor Series etc. He will commit close to 40 dates throughout the year. Generally when WWE superstars announce their retirement, they only have one match and that is it but this is John Cena. He loves WWE as it has given him everything.


There are a long list of WWE superstars that would want to face John Cena in 2025. John Cena vs Randy Orton needs to happen at WrestleMania 41 as the last WrestleMania match of John Cena. There is CM Punk who would also love to have a match against John. There are new wrestlers like Carmelo Hayes, Bron Breakker and many others who will look to gain as much knowledge as they can in the next year. He should not be brand specific as in he can have Matches against both Raw and SmackDown wrestlers. He should also wrestle in NXT and elevate that brand. A WWE Hall of Fame induction looks to be certain in 2025 with him being the headline inductee. WWE fans got emotional when they heard this announcement from John Cena at Money in the Bank and their childhood was over. WWE will market each and every PPV in 2025 with John Cena as the marquee.
