The McMahon Family

The McMahon Family is the most important and influential family in WWE history. The McMahon Family are the ones that are responsible for WWE being there today. They might not be the best professional wrestlers but they are the ones who employed the best talents from around the world. Since 2022, the importance of the family has reduced as only Triple H is in active development. Triple H is the husband of Stephanie McMahon. There was also Linda McMahon who is the mother of Shane and Stephanie McMahon.

The McMahon Family has a century plus old history with wrestling. In 1915, Jess McMahon was promoting wrestling matches. Then Jess McMahon and his son Vincent J McMahon started the Capitol Wrestling Corporation which was founded in 1953. It was under the National Wrestling Alliance or the NWA but in 1963 they broke away and formed the WWWF which was the World Wide Wrestling Federation. In 1969 , Vince McMahon who was the son of Vincent J McMahon purchased the WWWF and he renamed it the WWF which was the World Wrestling Federation in 1979. In 1999, Vince McMahon took the company public and WWF became World Wrestling Entertainment in 2002.

Vince McMahon was a genius who transcended professional wrestling and he made it something that was known and respected around the world. He made WWF and then WWE into global brands which was broadcast not just in the USA but around the world. WWE currently is being broadcast in 180 countries and in over 30 languages. In 2023, the unthinkable happened as Vince McMahon sold WWE to Endeavor for $9.3 billion dollars which was a very good valuation for WWE. Vince McMahon was a part of WWE since 1982 and for 42 years he was an integral part of WWE. In 2024 he left the WWE and it has been 6 months that WWE has been running without any involvement from Vince McMahon. WrestleMania 40 was the first WrestleMania of the Paul Levesque era of WWE. And with Nick Khan as the President of WWE, they have been doing PPVs around the world in countries like Puerto Rico, France, Australia, Canada, Germany.

Vince McMahon was responsible for WrestleMania being around. He was the one that created The Undertaker, Hulk Hogan, The Rock, Stone Cold Steve Austin, John Cena, Randy Orton, Ultimate Warrior etc. Vince McMahon would have been the boss of WWE even today if not for all the allegations against him. Vince McMahon has won a Royal Rumble Match, the WWE Championship. He has had Matches against Shane McMahon, Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, Stone Cold and he once tore both his quads while running to the ring.

Shane McMahon was in the WWE till 2010 during his first run. In that run he was having bangers against Kurt Angle, Jeff Hardy, The Rock , Stone Cold Steve Austin and Hulk Hogan among others.  He left WWE in 2010 and became the CEO of YOU On Demand Inc. In 2016, he shockingly returned to WWE without anyone knowing. He had a match at WrestleMania 32 against The Undertaker. Following that Shane McMahon was made the Commissioner of SmackDown and he had matches against Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn at WrestleMania 34. He also had bangers against AJ Styles at WrestleMania 33 and The Miz at WrestleMania 35. Shane, Vince and Stephanie had over 90% shares of WWE during that time. As of June 2016 WWE was at $1.38 billion dollars. Shane McMahon launched the official WWE website which was a big turning point for WWE. At WrestleMania 39, Shane McMahon was scheduled to have a match against The Mix but as he was running to the ring he tore his quad and that was the last in ring activity in WWE.

Stephanie McMahon was heavily involved with the WWE ever since she was 18 years old. She has been with the likes of Andre The Giant and she has been a part of every WrestleMania since WrestleMania 1. She has had matches against Brie Bella. She was the former Chairwoman and Co – CEO of WWE but when Vince McMahon came back she left the role. However things have changed as her husband is the boss in WWE so there is a chance that she might return to WWE. She was also the Chief Brand Officer of WWE and in that role she was responsible for improving the brand of WWE. Stephanie McMahon was made the Commissioner of Raw in 2016 and she was in that role for a number of years. She was a heel throughout her career and the crowd booed her every time. She had a great tag team match at WrestleMania 34 teaming with Triple H against Ronda Rousey and Kurt Angle. That was her last in-ring match in WWE.

Linda McMahon was the CEO of WWE but she stepped down so that she could run for the United States Senate from Connecticut.

The sale of WWE and the diminishing role of the McMahon Family

In January 2023, news started floating that WWE was being put up for sale. This was a shocker but this was seen as a response to the allegations against Vince McMahon. The negotiations were on and on Day 2 of WrestleMania 39, it was reported that a deal between WWE and Endeavor had been reached. The company Endeavor would have a 51% stake and WWE was valued at $9.3 billion dollars in the sale. The sale of WWE was finalized on 12th September 2023 and that was the final WWE PPV under the McMahon Family which was WWE Payback. WWE and UFC formed a new company called TKO and this was the start of the diminishing role of the McMahon Family.

Vince McMahon was still involved as the Executive Chairman and until in January 2024 Janet Grant accused Vince McMahon of doing things that were inexcusable, TKO decided to part ways with Vince McMahon. Stephanie McMahon also reduced her role but she made a comeback at WrestleMania 40 as a one off but she does not work officially for WWE. Shane McMahon has been in talks with AEW which was unthinkable a few years ago. Linda McMahon is involved in the Trump campaign for 2024. And Paul Levesque is the WWE Head of Creative. The fall of the McMahon Family started in 2022 and in 2024 WWE is without Vince McMahon, Shane McMahon and Linda McMahon.
