The WWE Referees have a thankless job because if they do their job well then they rarely get any appreciation but if they make one mistake then it is highlighted as if they committed a crime. WWE Referees are sometimes equally famous as the WWE superstars and there have been such great WWE Referees that to choose the Top 5 will be a difficult task.

So , let’s look at all the Eras in WWE and select the Top 5 WWE Referees of all time and highlight more of their great work they have done for WWE.


1) Earl Hebner


He is perhaps the greatest Referee in WWE history and Possibly the most famous of all time. Earl Hebner was someone who commanded the respect of all the WWE superstars and nobody tried to mess with him. He has been the referee for some of the most famous matches of all time like the WrestleMania 10 main event and most famously the 1997 Survivor series match between Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels. Earl Hebner is no more with the WWE universe but he will always leave an indelible mark on the business.


2) Charles Robinson

Charles Robinson is the most famous referee In WWE and has been for decades and he came into the scene in 1997 when he was a heel referee and he used to cheat for Ric Flair and being impressed with his skills, WWE hired him in 2001 and since then he has been with the company and has officiated the biggest matches in recent years including WrestleMania 24 between Shawn Michaels and Ric Flair and WrestleMania 26 when Shawn Michaels took on the Undertaker. Charles Robinson is the senior most referee In WWE today and he helps mentor the young Referees who have joined the WWE


3) Mike Chioda

Mike Chioda started in WWE in the year 1989 and at that time he was second fiddle to Earl Hebner who was the best in the world but soon it was his time and he took full advantage of it and he also has been in some really famous matches like the Shawn Michaels vs Stone Cold Steve Austin from WrestleMania 14 and Hulk Hogan vs The Rock from WrestleMania 18. He was also the referee for the Seth Rollins money in the bank cash in. Mike Chioda was let go by WWE in 2019 and now under Triple H, he can return back to WWE in a few years.


4) Tim White

Tim White was also one of those referees in WWE history who was widely respected across WWE and he was with WWE throughout his life and he was one of the very few close friends of Andre The Giant and he was respected more. The most famous match that he was the referee in was the Hell in a Cell Match between Undertaker and Mankind in 1998. He recently passed away and was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.


5) Joey Marella

This is a name that a lot of the new WWE fans may not have heard of but he was the adapted son of the great Gorilla Monsoon and he worked hard and became a referee in 1983 he was signed by WWE and he was so good in his role that he was given the honour of being the referee of Possibly the most important and biggest match of all time when Hulk Hogan took on Andre The Giant at WrestleMania 3. He was a referee till 1994 when he died of a car accident.
