This article has become relevant because of what England have done recently and they have created a world record and thus I am writing this article about the Top 5 most runs scored in the first day of the test match. Test Cricket has become more interesting since England have been playing this new brand of test cricket. England have revitalized test cricket and all the other teams need to follow suit or at least play a little faster.
Before we get to the list we will talk about the list. I want to say that test cricket has been played for 140 years and getting big Scores in the first day of a test match is rare. Scoring more than 400 runs in a test match on the first day takes a special effort because the ball is swinging and the Batters find it tough to score runs. So, let’s look at the Top 5 Most Runs on the first day of the test match.
England 506/4 vs Pakistan (2022)
This world record was set just weeks ago when England played the first test match at Rawalpindi and they were batting like it was a T20I match and they were batting at more than 6.5 runs per over and they were batting for fun and they were toying around with the World Class Pakistan bowling attack. There were 4 centurions on the first day of the test match against England. They batted for only 75 overs, if they had batted for 90 overs they would have crossed 600.
Australia 494/6 vs South Africa (2022)
Before this England score it was Australia who had the world record and that record stood for 112 years and they made it in 1910. Australia were batting first and they batted for 90 overs and they also had multiple centuries on that day. Australia were excellent on that day and they had a very good team.
Australia 482/5 vs South Africa (2015)
The third score on this list was again Australia vs South Africa and this time it was in 2015 and this time South Africa had a world class bowling attack and the Australian batting order David Warner made a hundred and Michael Clarke scored a double hundred. They made 550 runs in the first innings.
Australia 475/2 vs England (1934)
It is a hat trick for Australia in this list as the number 4 spot in this list is also by an Australian team but it was in 1934. So, 3 different generations of Australian batters batted so well in the first day of a test match that they are in the record books. And this was an Ashes test match against England and to score so many runs against a top class team was amazing. 2 of the batters in the team Scored double Hundreds in the team.
England 471/8 vs India (1936)
The fifth and last slot in this list was made by England vs India in 1936. The England team made 471 runs and lost 8 wickets and a batter from England made a double hundred and another one made a hundred. England were dominant in this match and they were ahead of India at this point and India were growing as a cricket nation.
