Top 5 Highest Bids of Day 1 of the IPL mega auction 2022

The first day of the 2022 IPL player auction was held on the 12th of February and a lot of players added many crores of rupees to their bank balance and they most certainly deserved it based on their performances over the past years or in the domestic season. However, among them are some who broke the bank as they say and they would be very happy gentlemen tonight.

The thing that was most pleasing to see was that a lot of young players were the ones to get most of the money and this shows that IPL is all about the future now as there might not be a mega auction again. And there were buys that shocked everyone so let’s first see the players who got the highest Bids in the auction on Day 1.

1.    Ishan Kishan (15.25 Crores): He was one of those players who was expected to go at a very high price and it was exactly the way everyone had thought. Mumbai Indians were waiting since the auction started and did not buy any player till the time his name came up in the auction after a few slots and even then the bidding war was intense as various teams wanted this special young player but Mumbai Indians were in no mood to let go off their star player and they broke the bank for him and made him their highest purchase in IPL history which says a lot about the faith they have in him. A good buy even at this price because he is so young and will serve Mumbai Indians for years to come.

2.     Deepak Chahar (14 Crores): Like in the case of Ishan Kishan, his former team CSK wanted Deepak Chahar at any cost and they also broke the bank and bid more than they ever did for any player in the past. They faced stiff bidding from a lot of other teams but their intention was to get him and nothing was going to come in their way and the value he brings to the team as a two skilled player is immense so it’s a decent buy.

3.     Shreyas Iyer (12.25 Crores): This would be considered a great buy for the Kolkata Knight Riders even at this high a price because the thought was that he would go for a lot more than eventually KKR bought him for. They needed a captain and he was the perfect option for them and he is a very young and established Indian batter and is very destructive in the IPL so considering all the factors and the thinking that the other teams would also go for him as they needed a captain so it’s a very good buy for the KKR team.

4.     Shardul Thakur (10.75 Crores): Like Deepak Chahar ,he is one player who is a very good utility player to have in any team and this the reason he went so high in the auction and Delhi Capitals were in it to get his services for their team as they needed a quality all rounder and they got the Lord so they will be very happy even after paying so much and he will bat lower in the order and bowl four overs so it is a win win for all sides.

5.     Harshal Patel (10.75 Crores): This is one but which is so deserved based off the incredible performance of last year where he was Purple Patel so RCB going for him was no surprise but it was not easy at all for them as they hoped they would get him cheaper but the other teams wanted him too and he has showed he can bat as well so his price going up was no surprise but RCB will be very happy they got him back even though they paid more than they would have liked.
