The Premier League of this season is already promising to be one of the most unpredictable and therefore one of the most entertaining seasons in the history of the PL.
Firstly, it started very close to the end of the last season, thanks to the pandemic and footballers didn’t get a long season break to sharpen themselves. Yes, they did get a long break since March, but lockdowns were rampant throughout the World at that point of time.
Secondly, goal per game ratio stands at 3.58. To put it into perspective, the past five seasons ended with goals-per-game averages of 2.72, 2.82, 2.68, 2.80 and 2.70, respectively. So, more and more celebrations and a high FPL score is in the making. The number of clean sheets has come down in 22 CS in 48 games in contrary to the high amount of goals being scored and a lot of penalties awarded (29) with 25 scored. From the scorer front, Harry Kane leads the line with 7 goals and 9 assists for the team on a total front as well as on the assist front. From the goal front, Dominic Calvert Lewin already has 10 goals up his sleeve and he doesn’t seem to calm down anytime soon.
Moreover, the biggest changes are the lack of fans in the stands due to the coronavirus pandemic which has increased the amount of away wins to 46%. This has almost completely diminished the value of the home advantage. Even the previous record figure stands at 33.7% in the 2018-19 season.
Thirdly, many high-profile players have been left out this season. Yannick Bolasie, Jean Michael Seri, Danny Rose, Phil Jones and Mesut Ozil, are just some of the most prominent ones to miss out on playing for the shirt they were supposed to, mostly because of the form they have been showing since the last seasons or more and they were adjudged to be much below than the top flight level.
Fourthly, there has been a total of 12 red cards and a total of 256 yellow cards being branded out to players till now. Within the yellow card list, Jonny Evans from Leicester City leads the chart with 4 cards and the team stands at 21 cards. On the red card list, Brighton and Hove Albion leads the line with 3 cards within the first 9 matches.
With the league only having completed close to 20-27% (Some teams have played 8, whereas some teams stand at 10 matches played) of its matches, there’s a long way for the teams to go and the season to end.
