In the opening game of the three-match ODI series between the hosts West Indies and the visitors India at Bridgetown, the left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja created a new history for Indian cricket. Breaking the legendary right-arm pacer Kapil Dev’s record, Jadeja became the leading ODI wicket-taker for India against West Indies.
Before the Bridgetown ODI on Thursday (27 July), Kapil Dev was India’s leading ODI wicket-taker against West Indies with 43 wickets in 42 games.
Ravindra Jadeja started the latest ODI series in West Indies with 41 wickets in 29 ODIs against West Indies.

In the ODI series opener, the visitors India chose to field first after winning the toss. While the Indian pacers provided a good start, the left-arm spinners Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav just dominated with the balls on the pitch. As a result, the hosts West Indies only managed to score 114 runs before getting all out in just 23 overs.
While the left-arm chinaman Kuldeep had the bowling figures 3-2-6-4, Jadeja earlier bagged three wickets and finished with the bowling figures 6-0-37-3.
In that ODI, Jadeja’s three victims were Shimron Hetmyer (11), Rovman Powell (4) and Romario Shepherd (0). While Virat Kohli’s excellent catch at the slip sent Shepherd back to the pavilion for a duck, Jadeja surpassed Kapil Dev to become India’s most wicket-taker in ODI against West Indies.
