5 gimmick matches WWE could bring back for Halloween 2021

Halloween is almost upon us and it's time to get scared once again. The Boogeyman will no doubt be getting his worms ready as the spooky season is celebrated in WWE. NXT will be honoring the ghostly day with a Halloween Havoc special and SmackDown will no doubt have some eerie events on Friday, October 29.

Over the years, WWE has created some gimmick matches that would resemble something from a horror movie. Some rightly deserve to be brought back for the WWE Universe, and some, well, could stay away for good.

That being said, let's take a look at five gimmick matches WWE could bring back for Halloween 2021.

1. WWE could bring back the First Blood Match

Another staple of Halloween: blood. WWE has evolved over the years from their TV14 content to a PG environment. This has meant that blood appearing on television is very unlikely to happen. There are some instances where this has happened. Sometimes accidental or sometimes added to a special match as a one-off.

The last First Blood Match we saw was in 2008, just prior to WWE really going full-on PG. The rules of the match are that the winner is declared when they bust open their opponent. What a surprise it would be if WWE announced this match type happening around Halloween? If done correctly, it is something that doesn't need to be off the table completely.

2. WWE could bring back the Inferno Match

If you're talking about horror, then look no further than this WWE gimmick match. The Inferno Match: the only way to win is by setting your opponent on fire. It's a match that has only occurred a small handful of times. The most recent was the Firefly Inferno Match which saw Randy Orton set The Fiend completely on fire.

The match would no doubt get the WWE Universe's attention, and it has been described as a fan favorite. If they truly want to celebrate Halloween, then this is the gimmick match for the occasion.

3. WWE could bring back the House of Horrors Match

We saw Seth Rollins recently visit Edge's home, but what if a WWE superstar took their rival to the House of Horrors? The match itself starts in the House of Horrors while the pinfall or submission takes place in the ring; the idea is that you beat your opponent so senselessly in the house, that they are incapacitated by the time they're taken to the ring.

The only match of its kind to take place between Bray Wyatt and Randy Orton at the Payback pay-per-view during their feud in 2017. WWE could bring it back for a one-off. It probably could have worked well with Seth Rollins and Edge's feud, if their rivalry was still ongoing.

4. WWE could bring back the Trick or Treat Street Fight

Now this WWE gimmick match has all the staples of Halloween. The Trick or Treat Street Fight! WWE places Halloween gimmicks around the ring such as pumpkins and candy, and lets the wrestlers go at it with no rules. The first match of its kind took place on a Halloween special of SmackDown in 2014 between Dean Ambrose and Cesaro.

WWE could absolutely bring this gimmick match back for Halloween and let the WWE Superstars involved have fun with it. It would make for an entertaining brawl and would certainly be enjoyed by Halloween enthusiasts in the WWE Universe.

5. WWE could bring the Eye for an Eye match

Ok, this one might be controversial, but the gimmick undoubtedly fits Halloween. The rules are fairly straight forward: the first person to extract an eye from their opponent wins the match. The gimmick match comes straight from the horror movie playbook and into the WWE ring.

Seth Rollins and Rey Mysterio had the first-ever Eye for an Eye match at The Horror Show at Extreme Rules in 2020. The match saw Seth Rollins remove Rey's eye out using the steel steps. Honestly, it did really happen, only the fake eyeball gave it all away.
