The biggest takeaways from the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2023

Another edition of the Border Gavaskar Trophy is in the books and it was an absorbing and a great test series where neither team gave an inch to the opponent and there was hard competitive cricket all throughout the 4 Test Matches and in the end the result was fair as the series finished 2-1 in favor of India.

The 4 test matches were all played under different pitches but for the first 3 matches, one thing was common that only the spinners enjoyed playing on those pitches and the matches were over in 3 days so the last test match was a flat deck and it was a full draw but finally the batters came into their own.

So, let’s look at the biggest takeaways from this series:

India has the best all round spin trio in the world

This is no longer a debate as all the questions were put to rest by the three incredible spinning all Rounders in the Indian team and all 3 of them are equally great. Ravichandran Ashwin is one of the greatest of all time and has been taking wickets for fun over the years and his batting is great as well and he has made 5 Test hundreds. Ravindra Jadeja is the best all rounder in the world and he can do everything from bowling quality spells and taking lots of wickets each match to scoring heaps of runs and taking India in a strong position and he is the best fielder in the team. And Axar Patel is the most improved cricketer in the world in test cricket as he became the fastest to take 50 test Wickets for India and he was the best batter in the series for India.

Virat Kohli is back in test cricket

It was a long 1205 days wait which resulted in 3 years 3 months and 17 days between the 27th and the 28th Test hundred of Virat Kohli. In the first 3 matches of the series, Virat Kohli was not in form and doubts were starting to creep up about his place in the team and so when the 4th test was at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad he made sure that he made the most of it and what an innings it was. Batting for 7+ hours and making 186 runs and not losing concentration once was staggering. Hopefully now the centuries will Start flowing from the bat of Virat Kohli.

Usman Khawaja and the Australian spinners were exceptional

From the Australian point of view the last 2 test matches were some of the best cricket they have played in years and after going 2-0 down in the series, the way they bounced back in Indore was great to see and especially led by Nathan Lyon who is the best overseas spinner ever and the young ones in Todd Murphy and Matthew Kuhnemann were amazing and in the 4th test match it was Usman Khawaja who stole the limelight when he made an incredible 180 runs from a mammoth 422 balls and he silenced all his doubters. It was a great series where Australia showed that they are one of the best teams.
