Expectedly, the January window has not seen much movement from clubs although there has been some notable transfers. Most teams has focused on moving on from players those have flopped in the first period of the league rather than incomings to boost their squad. However, that is expected to change as the window enter its final few days. Almost all of those outgoings has been summer signings who have failed to settle in the league.
The case for Hyderabad FC is different as their financial troubles has left them with only two foreigners, Petri Pennanen and captain Joao Victor, at the club. The club has also let go of some star Indian players in the squad amid on loan. Winger Mohammad Yasir has rejoined his former club FC Goa and has also made a reunion with Manolo Marquez while Vignesh Dakshinamurthy joined Odisha FC, both until the end of the season. Jamshedpur FC and Mohun Bagan Super Giant are the two clubs remaining inactive in this window so far.
Among the high-profile arrivals, 34-year-old Iago Falque who has experience in playing in the Premier League, Serie A and La Liga has joined East Bengal although no official announcement has been made by the club yet. Kerala Blasters has announced the signing of Fedor Černych, captain of Lithuania national team, to fill the void of Adrian Luna who has suffered a season-ending injury. NorthEast United roped in U-23 Morocco International Hamza Regragui to bolster their defence while Brazilian striker Ibson Melo left the club managing to score just once in the league.
The big transfer out of ISL has been Greg Stewart mutually parting ways with Mumbai City to return to his country Scotland, signing for Kilmarnock FC. The 33-year-old is one of the finest players to have played in the league after a trophy-laden three years in the ISL and making an impressive 42 goal contributions in 55 league games. Bengaluru FC’s out-of-favor striker Curtis Main also rejoined the Scottish League to play for Dundee FC. Meanwhile, Punjab FC let go of defender Mashoor Sheriff after he only managed 81 minutes from the bench this season.
