Ever since Mohun Bagan entered the ISL in 2020, they made winning the Shield a priority. It is no surprise for a club that has won the most number of titles in Indian football history to go for the top honour each time. However, the Mariners failed to clinch the silverware in their maiden season only due to an inferior head-to-head record with Mumbai City who also beat them in the ISL final. The Kolkata giants came close in the next season but failed at the crucial stage again. Despite winning the ISL trophy in 2022-23, their league performance was subpar.

All changed in the present season when Mohun Bagan was finally able to achieve their goal of lifting the League Winners Shield for the first time. However, it was not as straightforward as it sounds. Even though money was splashed in the transfer market, the star-studded squad failed to click under Juan Ferrando exiting from the AFC Cup group stage and falling off the race in the first half of the season. That changed when Antonio Habas took charge in 2024 and Bagan became a different side altogether, losing just once in the final 11 matches. To make matters sweeter, they defeated holders Mumbai City 2-1 for the first time in the ISL in a full-house Salt Lake Stadium to lift the Shield.

Here are the records set by Mohun Bagan after winning the ISL Shield 2023/24:

Fourth

Mohun Bagan became the fourth side to win the Winners Shield in ISL history. The Green and Maroons are the first side from Kolkata to have received the honour after missing out on the opportunity in the 2020-21 season to Mumbai City.

Dominance

The Mariners are the only side to have won any one of the two titles in ISL for consecutive seasons. They lifted the ISL trophy in March 2023 before winning the League Shield this April.

Winning Machine

Mohun Bagan has registered 15 wins in a single league campaign for the first time in their history. The previous highest win tally for the Mariners was 14 which came way back in the 1999-00 season. It is also the highest number of wins registered by any side in ISL.

Soaring

With the defeat of Mumbai City in the final league match of the 2023/24 season, Mohun Bagan acquired 48 points. This is a new record in the ISL as well as in the club's history after overtaking their 47-point tally set in the National Football League two and a half decades ago.

Reigning

This is the sixth league honour Mohun Bagan has won in their history and the second in four seasons. No other club from India have been able to match or better the record till now.

Kings

Mohun Bagan has won almost every trophy that Indian football has to offer in the present format. Although they have not won the Super Cup, the Mariners have crowned themselves a record 14 Federation Cup titles which is its predecessor. Mohun Bagan are the only club to have won the National Football League, I-League and the ISL Shield.

Happy Journey

With 28 points earned from 11 away matches, Mohun Bagan have collected the most points on the travel in ISL history.
