Sunrisers Hyderabad are a confusing team and their auction strategy was a bit confusing for everyone watching around the world, even after having the second highest purse going into the auction they played it strangely as they would bid for a top class player but leave midway in between when they could have outbid the other teams and got that player. Still they have assembled a decent squad and we here will analyze their team.
Sunrisers Hyderabad are a team that has won the IPL trophy once and it was in 2016 under the leadership of David Warner who was a fearless leader and guided them to their maiden win in the IPL and since then they qualified for the playoffs every time but last season was a disaster and they decided to change everything up. So this was an important auction for them as well.
Auction Strategy :
This team entered the mega auction with a huge purse of 68 crores and they had all the money needed to make a great team which would seriously challenge for the IPL title in the years to come. The first day is was not so good for them as they lost out on a lot of players but they got back their former players like T Natarajan and Bhuvneshwar Kumar who will add to the bowling side of things but they got good all rounders like Washington Sundar, Marco Jansen and Romario Shepherd who will be great utility players for them and in the second day they got Aiden Markaram first of all which was a good buy for them but their worst but was Nicholas Pooran for 10.75 crores but he has done nothing to show he is dependable so a totally mixed bag of an auction for them.
Team Analysis :
A detailed SWOT analysis of this team will follow but a quick general thought is that they have got a decent team of batters and all rounders but their bowling attack is the main issue in their team and they should have gone hard for some of the top class Bowlers. Strengths:
They have a few strengths just like the other teams in the IPL as their batting is actually good when one looks at it. Kane Williamson is the leader of this team and they have got quality batters such as Glenn Phillips and Aiden Markaram to their team who will add solidity to the batting order and the all rounders that they have is also a nice bunch of players like Washington Sundar who was a great buy for them, and in Romario Shepherd and Marco Jansen they have quality overseas all rounders who will add in both departments of the game for them.
Weaknesses:
Their biggest weakness is their bowling attack which is one of the weakest in the entire league. If we look at the ten teams then Their bowling attack will not compare to the others which will be a huge problem for them as they go along. Other than T Natarajan they have no wicket taking pacer and their Indian batting is also very weak as a team can only play 4 overseas players so they have a lot of issues to sort out.
Opportunities:
They also have the opportunity to do well in the IPL this season and the seasons ahead so they need to galvanize the resources and captain Kane will be able to do that and compete as a unit then they can be serious contenders and players like Abdul Samad and Umrah Malik can repay the faith that SRH showed on them.
Threat:
Other teams will go after their weak bowling attack and post huge scores and this is a big threat for Sunrisers Hyderabad as they can get batted out of the games and they need to understand this threat and their Indian batting can be exposed by the bowling attacks of the other teams as well.
