The second team that we will talk about in our series of articles on the teams is the Chennai Super Kings yeah which has won 4 IPL titles with the last one just being last year so it was extremely difficult for them to limit the retentions down to 4 as all the players did very well but they chose Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni, Moeen Ali and Ruturaj Gaekwad and had 48 crores in their purse going into the 2 day mega auction.
The Chennai team needed some new young blood with the experience that they already had so it was a tall order for the think tank for planning the mega auction and the players that they wanted. So let’s look at their auction strategy and do a detailed team analysis.
Auction Strategy :
The auction strategy for the CSK team management in the mega auction was different in the two days. In the first day CSK wanted to get as many old players back as possible back into their set up and they were able to get a lot of their former players back and unlike CSK they went all out to get Deepak Chahar as they spent 14 Crores to get him back as well as they got Mitchell Santner, Robin Uthappa and some others as well and on the second day they wanted new blood into the team so they got a few young talented players who will be groomed by them to become future stars for them.
Squad Analysis :
The Chennai squad has a nice mixture of experience and youth and they know how to groom players and Ms Dhoni is there as well to groom the young talents so they will again be serious contenders to win the IPL trophy yet again this time.
Strengths:
The strengths of this team are many , first they were able to retain 4 extremely good players who form the main core of the franchise and they bring different skills to the team so that is the first big strength. Second, they were able to bring back a few of their old guys like Deepak Chahar and Robin Uthappa so the loyalty factor is there. And they got young stars like Devon Conway from New Zealand, Shivam Dube , Adam Milne among others.
Weaknesses:
Looking at their team their batting is not as explosive as the other teams in the IPL and there are players who play at the 120 strike rate which is not ideal so their batting is a weakness for them. And other than Deepak Chahar there is not a bowler whom the other teams will be fearful of as they will feel let’s get Deepak out of the way and attack the others.

Opportunities:
It can be a huge opportunity for someone like Devon Conway or a Shivam Dube to establish themselves so that they can play fir CSK for years to come. Players like Rajvardhan Hangargekar and Mahesh Theekshana can shine and become global stars in no time.
Threat:
The bowling attacks of the other teams will think that lets get Ruturaj out early and then we can take control of the match and in bowling as well other teams will fancy scoring big runs against them as they don’t have intimidating bowlers like the other teams have.
