Starting at pole position was Verstappen with Charles Leclerc of Scuderia Ferrari behind him, at lights out Leclerc had a flying start and was flying past Max Verstappen, Norris took third for McLaren but slid off track in the final seconds of Q3, while Kevin Magnussen finished a fine fourth for Haas and Fernando Alonso rounded out the top five for Alpine.
In sixth was Norris’s teammate Daniel Ricciardo while Sergio Perez could only manage P7 for Red Bull, ahead of Bottas – who was eighth before crashing his Alfa Romeo. Vettel, managing Q3 in his Aston Martin, took P9 to leave Ferrari's Sainz in P10 after crashing out of Q2. Mercedes missed out on Q3, both George Russell P11 and Lewis Hamilton P13 in the drop zone before rain hit in Q2. Mick Schumacher split the Silver Arrows for Haas in P12 while Zhou Guanyu was 14th, despite going P4 in Q1. That left Lance Stroll 15th for Aston Martin.
While Leclerc was flying in front of the whole pack, Sainz was chasing the podium finish from P10, while caught in chasing the cars in front of him Sainz finished P4.
While in the last five laps Leclerc got his tyres graining and lost pace, which led to a P2 finish.

Russell gets the fastest lap in FP3
Mercedes’ George Russell set the pace in second practice for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix as teams focused on gathering long-run data for the main race on Sunday.
The Briton, who sits second in the Driver’s standings, quicker than the Red Bull of Sergio Perez, with championship leader Charles Leclerc a couple of tenths further back in third.
Lewis Hamilton made it two Mercedes drivers in the top-four, with Alpine’s Fernando Alonso matching his Sprint grid spot with fifth.
Carlos Sainz, who crashed in qualifying and started the F1 Sprint 10th and finished P4, in his refurbished Ferrari.
AlphaTauri had it’s both cars in top 10 position in it’s home race, while the Alfa Romeo was struggling behind them.
Lando Norris – who started the F1 Sprint third – was able to get out and about early on, a brake issue meant he was unable to set a meaningful lap time.
Alex Albon was an encouraging 11th in the leading Williams, ahead of the Haas duo of Kevin Magnussen and Mick Schumacher with Aston Martin pairing Lance Stroll and Sebastian Vettel 14th and 15th respectively
Alpine driver Esteban Ocon was down in 16th, a tenth clear of Williams' Nicholas Latifi, with Norris the last of those to set a lap time.
There’s still the grand prix left in which Verstappen has pole position start and behind him is the championship leader Leclerc.
