Wolverhampton Wanderers confirmed that manager Nuno Esprito Santo will step down at the end of the season by mutual agreement. In an official statement, Nuno Esprito Santo said “Sunday will be a very emotional day, but I am so happy that the fans will be back in Molineux and we can share one last special moment together, as one pack.”

The Portuguese manager left the Porto job to take charge of Wolves in 2017 and won the EFL Championship in his first season securing promotion to the Premier League after a 6-year absence. Santo in his 4 years in charge has taken wolves from a championship club to European candidates. In his first Premier League season, he managed to secure a 7th place finish for the Wanderers Securing European football for the first time since 1981. In 2019-20 Wolves under Nuno defied the second season syndrome to finish 7th for the 2nd consecutive season and reached the Quarter final of the Europa League. In his 4th and final season in charge Nuno's men are in 12th in the Premier League table with one game to go.
The reason for the manager's departure is unclear as performance has never been an issue under Nuno. The next manager at the Molineux will have a tough job to replicate to better Nuno's performance. Bruno Lage, Paulo Fonseca, Vitor Pereira and Rafa Benitez are some of the names being linked to succeed the Portuguese.
