On Monday night FC Barcelona cruised past bottom-placed Huesca to reclaim 2nd spot on the La Liga table. The Catalan club is now just 4 points behind league leaders Atletico Madrid.
Club captain and Talisman Lionel Messi scored 2 and assisted another as Barcelona won 4-1. The Argentine Legend made his 767th appearance for the Blaugrana.
Lionel Messi is now on par with former teammate Xavi and is most likely to overtake the Spaniard on the weekend when Barcelona play away at Real Sociedad. Messi is yet to renew his contract at Barcelona which runs out at the end of the season.
Messi has openly talked about his desire to leave the club because of the board but now that Barcelona has a new board and former President Joan Laporta is back in charge Messi might end up staying at the club.
The Blaugrana once again failed to make a significant impact on the UEFA Champions League after getting knocked out of the Round Of 16 by Paris Saint Germain. But Barcelona are still fighting for the La Liga and have also reached the Copa Del Rey final. There is no doubt that Messi will be very crucial for the remainder of the season if Barcelona have to win a trophy.
