Badminton will be one of our strongest sports in these Commonwealth Games and it has been in previous editions as well like in 2018 at Gold Coast the Indian badminton team won a total of 6 medals which included 2 Gold Medals, 3 Silver Medals and 1 Bronze Medal. The Indian contingent at these Commonwealth Games will be looking to reach more medals than they did the last time. There are players in this squad who can win medals and we will talk about all of them below.
Before we talk about the players in the Indian badminton team who can win Medals at these Games it is important to note that almost all of the badminton players in the Indian team are in top form as the men are coming from a famous Thomas Cup win and the women are always in form. So, let’s look at the Medal prospects.
PV Sindhu – Women’s Singles
The number 1 medal hope from the Indian badminton team is PV Sindhu as she has won everything in badminton and she is only 27 and so a good 7-8 years are left in her and she will be looking to win a Gold Medal in the Women’s singles as she is the best player in that field. All of India hopes for yet another Sindhu special.
Lakshya Sen- Men’s Singles
The second Medal hope is the young Lakshya Sen who has had a meteoric rise in badminton and he has just won the Gold at the Thomas Cup along with the other team members and he was amazing in his matches so he will be looking to get a medal and hopefully a Gold Medal for India.
Kidambi Srikkanth – Men’s Singles
Another medal hope in the Men’s singles is the experienced Kidambi Srikkanth and he will also be looking to win a medal for India along with Lakshya Sen and all Indian fans would hope that these 2 meet in the Gold Medal match so India can get 2 medals from 1 event.
Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty – Men’s Doubles
These 2 are the in form doubles pair in the world and they will be firm favorites for a medal at these Commonwealth Games and they will be fighting not just for a medal but for the Gold Medal at these Games as their chemistry is top notch and all fans would hope for doubles magic.
Trisha Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand – Women’s Doubles
Yet another Doubles pair who has a good skit at a medal at these Games and these 2 are a young pair but they have great understanding with each other and they will need to play at their best and win a medal for India in women’s doubles.
Sumeeth Reddy and Ashwini Ponappa – Mixed Doubles
The final 2 players from our badminton team and they will be playing in the mixed doubles event and they are also medal hopes for India in this event and they will he looking to play as a great team and win the Gold Medal for India.
Mixed Team event
This is an event in badminton that India does very well in and in the Mixed team event for the Commonwealth and this year the Indian team will be very strong and will look to win a medal at This event as well and hopefully a Gold Medal.
