As much as 338 players went under the hammer at the auction table in Kolkata. Out of those, 62 were bought in total by all the eight franchises who together spent ₹140.3 crore. The Australian cricketers attracted big bids and stood out in the auctions. As usual, pacers had a command in the 13th Indian Premier League Players auctions.

Pat Cummins was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders for a whopping price of ₹15.50 crore. It is the most expensive buy of the season. Also, Pat Cummins joined the club of most expensive players in the IPL history next to only Yuvraj Singh (₹16 crore in 2015 by DD). The bidding war went on among three teams – Kolkata, Bangalore and Delhi. Kolkata outbid its competitors to buy one of the best players at the auction.

Piyush Chawla became the most expensive capped Indian to be bought at this year’s IPL auctions. He was a surprise buy by the three-time champions Chennai Super Kings. CSK fought off KXIP and bought the fourth highest wicket taker in IPL for ₹6.75 crore.

CSK has already retained its core team. It went on to add four more players to their bowling unit.
