Another year and it was the same story from the team who has been the most inconsistent team in the playoffs throughout the long history of Indian Premier League. With the players like Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, Dale Steyn and Chris Morris still they have performed with no intent in the eliminator game of the second qualifier. Although in the first half of the tournament Royal Challengers Bangalore proved everyone wrong with their performance and looked to have their maiden IPL Trophy.
But in the second half of the tournament they performed completely opposite of the first half and managed to enter the playoffs on the edge of their net run-rate. RCB has lost their last 5 games including today's game. With a captain like Virat Kohli who has been phenomenal in the last few years but wasn't able to find success in the major knockout games of the big tournaments. Talking about the eliminator match there was no intent from the RCB team in the match either in the batting or bowling division. Having said, let us take a look at four reasons for RCB loss.
Royal Challengers Bangalore With No Depth In The Bowling
Team cannot win a match without having the balance in the line-up. Throughout the long history Royal challengers Bangalore has the poor bowling unit and they have continued the same strategy in the IPL 2020. With the likes of Dale Steyn, Chris Morris and Umesh Yadav who have not played most of the matches was another surprising move. Even in the spin division RCB don't have quality spinners to be the match-winners.
However in a match against SunRisers Hyderabad, RCB played without their experienced bowlers which was the out of the box move. There is no logic that a team is going to win every match on the back of a few players. With every year it was the same story of RCB to rely on the players like Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers to win every game.
Royal Challengers Bangalore Has Absurd Team Combination
Throughout the tournament it was an unpredictable team combination of Royal challengers Bangalore. With the only opener in the form of Devdutt Padikkal they have failed to find another opener. The middle order looked completely absurd without having regular players in a team throughout the league phase.
In a eliminator match against Sun risers Hyderabad in the playoffs, Virat Kohli has opened the innings with Devdutt Padikkal. This was the quite shocking strategy. At this point of the time the experiment with the batting order was an absurd move and once again it has proved that in a knockout game Virat Kohli captaincy is a big question mark?
Royal Challengers Bangalore Has To Change His Captain
“Talent wins matches, but teamwork wins tournaments.”
Virat Kohli – The Modern-Day Great. It's very hard to believe that a player who has been so consistent in every format of the game has failed to achieve success with major trophies. Royal Challengers Bangalore has changed their captain to turn around their fortunes in the next year of IPL or it will be the same story again and again.
Virat Kohli with 466 runs in 15 matches, these runs are of no use if your team is unable to find success. Even in the past we have witnessed that Virat Kohli has scored 973 runs in a single season of 2016 but was defeated against Sun risers Hyderabad in the finals. Winning hearts is a different thing and winning matches is another thing.
If RCB had come to win hearts then keep the same strategy in the next year of IPL with the hopes to get different results perhaps. But truth to be told, Virat Kohli is the worst captain for the RCB. Will I be going to see the same captain or some young talent taking the charge of RCB line-up in the next year season?
Royal Challengers Bangalore Has Absurd Middle-Order
Josh Phillippe in his debut season of IPL has only played 5 games in the season. What's the point of putting trust on the player like Shivam Dube who has played 11 matches with just 129 runs in the IPL 2020. If you picked up Josh Phillippe who has a great record in the Big Bash League. RCB has to keep him in playing eleven throughout the tournament to get to know more about his batting strengths and character of this young bloke in the crisis situation from Australia.
Being selective towards the few players makes the other insecure about their position. There are many cases in which RCB picked inexperienced players over the experienced player in a match and ended up on the losing side. Royal Challengers Bangalore has to find the balance in the middle order to provide depth in their batting. Will RCB come with a better team in the next year of IPL? Time will tell!
