All European teams have talented youngsters waiting to make their mark in the first team. While some prodigies come through the team's academy, others make the move at a young age in search of better opportunities. There are teams that keep churning out talented youngsters on a consistent basis.
Many predicted that teams will have a quiet transfer window due to financial reasons during the coronavirus pandemic. However, teams have had good business in the ongoing transfer window and several talented youngsters have been transferred or are linked with big clubs.
Here we have come up with the top five young stars that could shine for their teams after impressive break out performances in the 2019-20 season.
1. Alphonse Davies – Bayern Munich:
Canadian full-back Alphonse Davies has been one of the breakout stars of the 2019-20 season as the Bavarians won their second treble. The 19-year-old left-back has been able to win his place in the first team and is now a regular face in Bayern’s line up. He signed for Bayern Munich in 2018 from MLS side Vancouver and made his debut in 2019. Due to explosive speed, dribbling and crossing, he was labelled by many as the best left-back in the world last season.
2. Erling Braut Haaland – Borussia Dortmund:
Another exciting youngster at Dortmund alongside Jadon Sancho, Haaland has been in sensational form since the start of 2019-20 season. He joined Dortmund in January and kept scoring on a consistent basis. He scored 16 goals from 18 appearances for Dortmund last season. He is another player to watch out for this season.
3. Mason Greenwood – Manchester United:
18-year-old forward Mason Greenwood has spent his entire youth career at Manchester United’s youth academy. He joined their academy at the age of six and has risen through the ranks to make his senior debut in 2019 against PSG in the Champions League. Since then, he has been in a sensational form scoring many important goals for the Red Devils. In 49 appearances last season, which included many substitute and last-minute appearances, he managed to score 17 goals. He has no strong foot and is equally strong with both of his legs. Additionally, he can play anywhere in the forward line and he has also played as a 10, which makes him a versatile player.
4. Sandro Tonali – AC Milan:
“He is much more complete than me.” When a legendary midfielder like Andrea Pirlo praises a player, you just sit back and enjoy his game.
Sandro Tonali has been impressive for Brescia for the past two seasons. Prior to the 2019-20 season, many called him a raw product who needs to be more polished. He had a brilliant debut Seria A season for Brescia and attracted interests from various top clubs. Finally, AC Milan signed him in a loan deal with an option to buy at 15 million euros. He has already made his non-competitive debut for Milan against his former team Brescia.
5. Ansu Fati – FC Barcelona:
After a record-breaking season, Ansu Fati features in our list as one of the youngsters to watch out for in the 2020-21 season. He became the youngest goalscorer in the Champions League history as he scored Barcelona’s winner against Milan. He is also the youngest La Liga player to score and assist in a single game. He has scored some important goals for Barcelona last season, including the winner against Milan, debut goal against Osasuna and the brace against Levante in a 2-1 win for Barca. His performances earned him a call up for Spain’s national team earlier this month. He made two appearances and became Spain’s youngest goalscorer in his first start for Spain.
