Head coach Zlatko Dalić named the final squad for Croatia taking part in their eighth consecutive major competition in the form of Euro 2024 Germany. Having not won a single honour as part of Yugoslavia or an independent nation despite going close to doing so in their steady progress over the years, Croatia will finally want to crown their ‘golden generation’ with silverware as for some stars it will be the last dance in this tournament. The task will be extremely difficult as they have been placed in Group B the ‘group of death’ with former winners Spain , defending champions Italy and Albania .The Checkered Ones also did not progress beyond the round of 16 stage in the last two editions prompting Dalic to fight all odds again.
History
Croatia made their debut in the Euro Championship in 1996 as part of Yugoslavia but has played the subsequent edition as an independent state. Since then they have qualified for every Euros except the one held in 2000. While Croatia has impressed in the World Cup with a runners-up finish in 2018 and a third-place finish four years later, reaching the quarterfinal in the 2008 Euros is their only best showing in competition history. Dalic’s side suffered elimination in the first knockout round in the previous round with their last Euro game being a dramatic 5-3 defeat to Spain after extra-time.

The Euro 2024 is most likely the swansong tournament for captain Luka Modrić and Ivan Perišić who are over 35 now while Andrej Kramarić, Mateo Kovačić and Marcelo Brozović are also hitting their 30s. With a lot of young faces in the squad, Croatia once again have struck the right balance of youth and experience to use in a tournament. The squad is almost identical to those called up for the World Cup two years ago.
