With football resuming from 15th May in Germany, Bundesliga was a roller coaster till the league was suspended temporarily. Bayern Munich are leading the table with 55 points from 25 matchdays, followed by Dortmund (51), RB Leipzig (50) and Monchengladbach (49). The Bundesliga is surely ranked amongst the best leagues in the world, if not the best. It has provided fans with all they could have hoped for before the suspension. Now the league can resume from mid-May, Chancellor Angela Merkel has confirmed. Some light at the end of a very dark tunnel for all football fans, eh?
So, which players have impressed in the 25 match days in the Bundesliga? Let's take a look at the Bundesliga team of the season so far…
The formation is a bit weird and unbalanced 4-1-3-2, but the intention was to pick the players who have been the most impressive in the league until now.
Goalkeeper - Manuel Neuer (Bayern Munich)
The German shot-stopper, Neuer has been in tremendous form this season for Die Bayern. He has conceded the fewest goals this season so far (26). He has started all 25 games so far and has also kept 10 clean sheets (most clean sheets in Bundesliga). Bayern have conceded the fewest goals in the Bundesliga and Neuer has definitely played his part with a lot of stunning saves. He just edges Mönchengladbach's Yann Sommer to take our goalkeeper position.
Right Back - Christopher Trimmel (Union Berlin)
Always reliable, Trimmel has been a fine player for Die Eisernen. The Austrian international has performed consistently this season, setting up 7 goals in 25 appearances for Union Berlin. Another impressive stat has been his 79% dribble success rate. He deserved his place in this lineup as he has been the best right back in the league this season.
Centre Back - Marcel Halstenberg (RB Leipzig)
The young French defender has cemented his place in the starting lineup after series of impressive performances. He has lost just 24 of his 67 aerial duels contested during the season (3.2 aerials won per game) and has also managed 1.9 tackles per game. He averages 1.6 interceptions so far and has combined well with Upamecano to form one of the best defence in Bundesliga.
Centre Back - Dayot Upamecano (RB Leipzig)
The 21-year-old French International has thrived as Leipzig's defensive boss. He has been a phenomenal presence in defence at the Red Bull Arena along with Halstenberg, that has seen them concede just 26 goals in 25 matches. His numbers are very impressive: 2.5 aerial duels won per game, 87% passing accuracy, 35 interceptions, 45 tackles won. Upamecano also makes 3.3 clearances per 90 minutes, another outstanding stat.
Left Back - Alphonse Davies (Bayern Munich)
The Canadian full-back has been the revelation of the season in the Bundesliga. The youngster has made 21 appearances in the league and has been an integral part of the Bavarians' defence conceding just 26 goals in the league. He has established himself as one of the league’s most solid left-backs as his side aim to grab the Bundesliga title. Hakimi has been an excellent force going forward as he has 1 goal and 4 assists to his name & manages 3 dribbles per game.
Defensive Midfielder - Joshua Kimmich (Bayern Munich)
The versatile player, Kimmich has been phenomenal for Bayern this season. Kimmich has been Bayern's anchor in the middle of the park. Without a doubt, he has been the midfielder in the Bundesliga so far. Kimmich has scored twice & assisted 4 times, manages 90% passing accuracy and 1.5 tackles per game.
Right Midfielder - Serge Gnabry (Bayern Munich)
One of the breakout players in the world, Gnabry has been in electric form this season. Gnabry has managed 43 key passes, 42 successful dribbles, 9 assists and scored 11 goals earning him a place in the list. It is no lie that at 24 years of age, Gnabry is already climbing higher than he could have ever imagined, a fine return for the former Arsenal man.
Offensive Midfielder - Christopher Nkunku (RB Leipzig)
Does this inclusion need to be explained? It's self-explanatory. 23 Bundesliga appearances, 4 goals, 12 assists. Which means that he has been directly involved 16 goals this season so far. He has been crucial for Leipzig, helping them to the top 3, by coming up in big games and has been on a different level this season. The French midfielder will be expected to carry on with his performances once Bundesliga returns.
Left Midfielder - Jadon Sancho (Borussia Dortmund)
Sancho has been sensational for Dortmund, scoring 14 and setting up 15 times. These stats mean that he has been directly involved in more goals (29) than any other player in the league. Sancho is having a superb season and has proved himself as a key player for the future.
Striker - Robert Lewandowski (Bayern Munich)
Lewandowski has easily been the best player in the Bundesliga so far. He has been directly involved in 28 goals this season, scoring 25 (top-scorer) and providing 3 assists for his teammates. He is also a contender for the European Golden Boot with 25 goals (2 goals behind Immobile)
Striker - Timo Werner (RB Leipzig)
Another contender of the Golden Boot, Werner has 21 goals from as many games He also has 7 assists. His numbers just keep getting better. With Liverpool heavily linked with him not denying the rumours. His biggest strength has been his clinical finishing. Since joining Leipzig, only Lewandowski has more goals than him.
