After crashing out in the quarterfinals of the 2022 World Cup, Brazil began their journey for the next edition in 2026 in USA, Mexico and Canada with the first set of CONMEBOL qualifying games to be played in September international break. The Selecao will face Bolivia at home in the opening match before traveling to Peru four days later. Interim head coach Fernando Diniz will take charge of the team after Tite stepped down from his role last year.
Brazil topped their qualifying group of the last World Cup without losing a game and scoring 40 goals. The South American giants dropped points just three times in 17 available matches with only five conceded. Something similar is expected out of this young but extremely talented squad. They will be at their prime by the team the 2026 FIFA World Cup rolls in if five-time record champions can maintain their record of qualifying to each finals so far in history.

Brazil played three friendlies all against African nations after their exit from the 2022 FIFA World Cup. It is fair to say the result did not go well for them with the 4-1 triumph of Guinea the exception. Surprise package of the tournament last year, semi-finalists Morocco defeated Brazil for the first time in their history. The match against Senegal also resulted in a loss in a 4-2 thriller. Neymar returns to the Brazil squad after making the switch from PSG to Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal. However, his availability could be in doubt due to an ankle injury. Defender Roger Ibanez, also playing in the Saudi League with Al-Ahli, has been included. West Ham’s Lucas Paqueta has been withdrawn from the squad following an investigation by FA for potential betting breaches. Four players from the domestic top division have made the squad. Manchester United winger Antony has been dropped from the main squad following allegations of abuse by his ex-girlfriend. Arsenal forward Gabriel Jesus was called up in his place.
