Lionel Messi stretched his most Ballon d’Or awards record to eight after winning the Ballon d’Or 2023. Here, we are going through the final rankings of the Ballon d’Or 2023.
Like the Ballon d’Or 2022, the Ballon d’Or 2023 award was based on the performances of a season (2022/23), not the previous culture of calendar year performances.
By guiding his nation to win the FIFA World Cup 2022 trophy in Qatar, Argentine legendary forward Lionel Messi was one of the hot favourites to win the Ballon d’Or 2023. In the FIFA World Cup 2022, the Argentine captain won the Golden Ball and Silver Boot awards.
In the 2022/23 season, Messi served for the French Ligue 1 club Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). In overall 2022/23 competitions, he scored 38 goals and 25 assists in 54 matches. Apart from winning the FIFA World Cup 2022 for Argentina, Messi celebrated with the Ligue 1 trophy and Trophée des Champions for PSG.
In July 2023, Messi officially signed for the US MLS club Inter Miami.
In the Ballon d’Or 2023, Messi beat Norwegian striker Erling Haaland (first runner-up) and French forward Kylian Mbappé (second runner-up).
