The draw for the 2022 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in India was held on Friday, 24th June dividing the 16 qualified nations into four groups. This is the 7th edition of the biennial tournament since its inception in 2008. The tournament starts
India is hosting a FIFA tournament for the second time and a FIFA women’s competition for the first time. The nation was initially chosen for the 2020 edition but it got canceled due to the pandemic so they were granted to host the very next edition of the tournament. Spain are the defending champions after lifting the crown in 2018.
Goa, Navi Mumbai and Bhubaneswar are the three places selected for the competition. Three venues - Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, DY Patil Stadium and the Kalinga Stadium will host the matches with kick-off times scheduled at 4:30 PM and 8:00 PM.
Groups
Hosts India are drawn into a tough group consisting of the United States, Morocco and Brazil. The Blue Tigress begin their campaign against the USA against whom India also played first in the FIFA U17 Men’s World Cup back in 2017. Germany is the only European nation to have qualified for every tournament and will lock horns with Nigeria, Chile and New Zealand in Group B. Holders Spain will face Colombia, the nation they beat for the title in 2018 in Mexico and China. 2014 winners Japan will face 2012 winners France, Canada and Tanzania. Two African nations, Morocco and Tanzania are making their debuts in the competition alongside the hosts India.
