FC Goa wants to use their fortress as an advantage over ATK Mohun Bagan to turn back from the disappointing defeat against Kerala Blasters in the last match.
The Gaurs suffered a 3-1 defeat to the Tuskers while the Kolkata-based side had to pull off a comeback 2-1 win over basement club NorthEast United.

The 3-1 loss to Kerala Blasters was not the kind of result FC Goa’s coach Carlos Pena wanted after an excellent 3-0 win over Jamshedpur FC last time at Fatorda. The defeat proved costly in the sense they were dumped out of the playoff places. It was not that the Gaurs were outplayed but failed to take their chances which the Tuskers did. Carlos Pena will wish now his side could turn back against a plucky ATK Mohun Bagan in the second home game of the season. If they do so, it will be the first time FC Goa will register a win against ATKMB since their adaptation in ISL. This will be the first meet at the Fatorda Stadium. The 1-1 draw in January 2021 is the only positive the Gaurs carry in the four meetings so far. Hence, desperation will be there to replace it. Noah Sadaoui’s scoring form in continuing to bench Alvaro Vazquez has been uplifting for FC Goa but the team has to showcase their brilliance. Pena’s men had done excellent work this season with three victories in five matches and one other loss to table-toppers Hyderabad FC. Those victories though have come against sides lying below the table. FC Goa have to step up the marker and produce the best against the top sides in the contest. So far, the loss against the champions and last season’s finalists has not sounded right. A needy win over the current fifth-placed holders could set the tone ahead of a schedule that could be a bit relaxing this month. Then it becomes perilous again next month with Mumbai City FC and Odisha FC to face.
ATK Mohun Bagan have a very inconsistent nature in their display. One time they could look to be in full control of their surroundings yet the next moment a deterioration from the dominance. It needed a 90th-minute winner from Subhasish Bose to register a win against the last-placed NorthEast United after they turn the game around nine minutes earlier following Liston Colaco’s opener in the first half. Considering the Highlander’s lackluster form throughout the season, an unconvincing win at home will not build huge confidence even though it was a comeback victory. The home side in Saltlake Stadium enjoyed more possession of the ball and clearly had the best chance to win it comfortably. Juan Ferrando will be relieved about the fact that they have not dropped further points this season after a 2-2 draw with Mumbai City and the opening game loss to Chennaiyin FC. But he cannot drum on this unbeaten run and will like a more dominant display against FC Goa. ATK Mohun Bagan have not lost to the Gaurs in the ISL. A factor they want to hold on to keep the momentum intact. Three points will be necessary as they face holders Hyderabad FC next week. They had to do with some injury problems troubling them basically in the center-back position. Juan Ferrando’s side holds a one-point lead over FC Goa and are six points behind the Nizams. Confirming a playoff will be of utmost importance for the side this season so no drop-offs from here will be expected.
