MSC vs ODI Match Preview
All the early signs of Mohammedan SC making their presence felt in their debut ISL season have taken a hit with the Black Panthers sitting bottom of the table. The I-League holders have not secured any wins since their first in this competition in September by beating Chennaiyin FC 1-0. Including a drubbing at the hands of Mohun Bagan in the next match, Mohammedan conjured a nine-game winless run taking just one point in the period. In their final away game of 2024, the team suffered a humiliating 3-0 defeat against Kerala Blasters in Kochi. Their resistance crumbled completely when Bhaskar Roy made a comical mistake by punching an Adrian Luna corner into his own net shortly after the hour mark. Noah Sadaoui and Alexandre Coeff added late goals to the confirmed victory leaving the Kolkata outfit frustrated again. Hence, Mohammedan SC will enter the last game of the year against Odisha FC lacking confidence and without a scoring edge having failed to score in three consecutive games. A win would be a miracle for the side which would encourage them for a better 2025 although a draw is what they will be wishing having lost in the past four home games in the league.
Visitors Odisha FC are sitting on the opposite side of the ladder in the fifth spot after picking up 19 points from the last 10 games. Having begun the season with three straight losses, it is a notable comeback from Sergio Lobera’s side possessing a five-game unbeaten run. The Kalinga Warriors came from behind to beat East Bengal at Salt Lake in the previous game with Jerry Mawhingthanga equalising shortly after Lalchungnunga gave the lead in the 53rd minute and Hugo Boumous scoring the winner at the death. Another victory will put them third on the table and closing the distance to the top spot to four points. For that, Odisha FC have to beat Mohammedan SC in their final game of the year making back-to-back trips to the ‘city of joy’. The opposition’s disiatrous form will make them favourites for the tie but the guests will have to cautious of their record of winning just once in the past six away games against a Kolkata side. Odisha FC also have won once in the last five year-end games but they should have the quality to pull this off to wrap up a memorable year for them.
