BFC vs JFC Match Preview
Back-to-back losses after a 2-0 win over FC Goa last month have brought back the fragilities Bengaluru FC struggled with early in the season. At least the goals have come around this time but an early-minute penalty and a late hope from Javi Hernandez did not change the outcome of their 3-2 loss to Kerala Blasters. The defeat keeps them ninth on the chart with a massive eight points adrift from the playoff spots. Defensively, Bengaluru FC looks knackered with 12 goals conceded this season with eight of them leaked in the last five matches. The Blues stares at another underwhelming campaign if things do not improve in the second half of the season. They have not made it to the playoffs since the 2019/20 campaign. A pattern of underperformance is slowly growing in a club of this stature which is not encouraging. Head coach Simon Grayson has to install the same spirit of the Durand Cup success to find positive results quickly otherwise it won’t be late before his job is put into scrutiny. Against Jamshedpur FC, they are desperate to pick up a victory knowing the opposition themselves have registered three points only once for the entire campaign.
Jamshedpur FC were unlucky not to have taken a point out of their visit to Saltlake Stadium in taking on ATK Mohun Bagan, losing through a stoppage-time penalty from Hugo Boumous. The spot-kick was awarded after Peter Hartley was shown a straight red in the 88th minute for violent conduct on Kiyan Nassiri. The club and the defender has parted ways abruptly since with a replacement being lined up. Hartley was a key contributor in the backline for the Men of Steels guiding them to the Winners Shield title in the last season. The business has also been done in the forward sector with Rafael Crivellaro joining from Chennaiyin FC and Slavko Damjanovic, also a former player for the Marina Machans. Jamshedpur FC are hoping to bloom again with these signings as only NorthEast United are placed below the standings. The team have suffered seven losses and only four points gained in nine games. With a tough set of games to overcome before the end of the year, the Men of Steels have to turn their corners somehow. They could go level on points with Bengaluru FC through a win but anything other than a defeat could do to inspire them for positives ahead.
