While Assam handed the first defeat to the Group B table topper Kerala at the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2023/24, the Assam skipper Riyan Parag created a new world record in T20 cricket as the right-handed batter became the first cricketer to score 50+ runs in six consecutive T20 innings.
On October 27, 2023, Assam sent Kerala to bat first and restricted them to 127/6 in 20 overs. In reply, captain Riyan Parag guided Assam to reach the target in 19.3 overs after losing eight wickets. Although Assam were once struggling at 101/8 in 17.4 overs, Parag’s 57 not out off 33 balls (one four and six sixes) proved to be strong enough for Assam to beat Kerala.
