Tie is a very rare result in cricket. To produce a decider in a tied limited-overs match, the Super Over has been introduced. This Super Over is also known as a one-over eliminator or a one-over per side eliminator. Here we are talking about the highest Super Over totals in international cricket history.
Early tie-breaker history in international cricket
In limited-overs international cricket, the first tie-breaker was a bowl-out. In the case of a tied match, the bowl-out becomes the decider, where the bowlers had to hit an unguarded wicket (three stumps) through their deliveries.
The bowl-out was first officially used in international cricket during the 2006 Auckland T20I between New Zealand and West Indies. Before that, international cricket matches ended with a tie result without introducing any decider method.
Super Over
Since 2008, the Super Over replaced the bowl-out as the tie-breaking method. In the Super Over, each team play one over with two wickets in hand.
After the controversial Final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, where England beat New Zealand on the boundary count back rule after a Super Over tie result, it has been changed to another Super Over in the case of a tie result in a one-over eliminator.
Here we have brought up the lists of the “Highest Super Over totals (ODIs+T20Is)” and “Highest Super Over scores by batters (ODIs+T20Is)”.
