The Wicket-Keeper Batsman of Afghanistan Mohammad Shahzad has accused the Afghanistan Cricket Board following his omission from the side after sustaining a knee injury during the Cricket World Cup.
Shahzad shockingly blames the Afghanistan Cricket Board and has said that the cricket board has conspired against him to leave him out of the World Cup even after being completely fit.
Shahzad suffered a knee injury, during the practice match against Pakistan. Shahzad although managed to play the opening two games against Australia and SriLanka Respectively in which he was dismissed for a low score. The 31 year old, then was dropped from the Afghanistan World Cup side with the Board stating that the player is injured and will not be able to take further part in the Cricket World Cup.
Shahzad then told the media that “ I have no clue why I am not in the side anymore even after being completely fit. The Afghanistan Board has conspired against me, only the Doctor, Manager and the Coach knew about my omission. It was heartbreaking.”
Shahzad got to know that he was no longer a part of the World Cup squad after his training session ahead of the match against New Zealand. He was completely shocked after checking his phone, he found out that he was no longer in the side and he was ruled out due to a knee injury. Teenager Ikram Ali Khil was immediately called as his replacement. The captain of Afghanistan Gulbadin Naib stated, that Shahzad’s loss is a big blow for Afghanistan but he was suffering from a knee injury from the past 2-3 weeks and they were forced to replace him the squad.
When the Afghanistan Cricket Board was asked to comment upon the issue, the ACB CEO Asadullah Khan told the media that Shahzad is injured and due to this he was not able to give his best on the field. Asadullah stated “ Every he has said is completely Wrong, a proper medical report to the ICC has been submitted regarding Shahzad’s Injury. The team could not field, an unfit player. I completely understand that he is upset, about not being in the side anymore but the team would not have compromised on his Fitness.”
Shahzad accepted the fact his knee was in bad shape, after their practice game against Pakistan but after resting for three days he was completely fit to play in the World Cup. Shahzad said “ I have had knee issues for a while now, but it gets fine after icing. I took complete rest after the practice match and was fit to play. I also played the first two matches but after my training session, on the team bus I received this shocking news from my manager.”
