Without any further delaying let us jump into this thrilling encounter to refresh our emotions one more time. After the semi final match against India. Fans like me badly wanted New Zealand to lift the Trophy for the first time after they have thrashed India and who can get the better treat on Sunday with a match like this at Lords ground. Looking at both the sides everyone were expecting the high scoring game 350+ as it was the final too. Although England pitches are perfect for batting which we have seen in the league stage from a team like Bangladesh who was scoring 330+ against the world class sides. But cricket is a game of unexpected things and that's what happened in the final game.
New Zealand Innings
Martin Guptill and Henry Nicholls opened the innings for New Zealand, with Nicholls scoring his first 50 runs of the tournament. A further 30 runs from skipper Kane Williamson, and 47 from wicket-keeper Tom Latham, helped New Zealand to a sum of 241/8 from their 50 overs.
England Innings
The England openers did not get off to a very good start as their opener departed at the 28/1 while at other side wickets kept losing at regular intervals in hope of setting a high score. At the one stage, England was at 86/4 and looked like they would crumble before 150. But there comes the twist when the aggressive players like Ben Stokes and Jos Butler set a partnership of 110 Runs for 5th wicket and put the England team in some good position. As Jos Butler departed the pressure came on to the lower order to play aggressive cricket while on the other end Ben Stokes managed to score runs. As England 15 runs from the final over with 2 wickets in hand.
After the first 2 dot balls, it was very cleared New Zealand will take it away but then comes the final twist. Ben Stokes hits the six on the 3rd ball over deep mid-wicket to move the scoreboard 233/8. I was still sure after this six England was not going to clear the final line. As came the 4th ball of the over stokes again hits the ball to mid-wicket while Guptill threw it back at the striker end where Stokes was going to complete his 2nd run as he dived into the crease before the ball hits wickets; no one expected ball will hit the stokes bat before he reached the crease and went onto the four runs. I think it was very biased in completing the 2 runs England team was given 6 runs not even 5 runs as he was not inside the crease while the ball hit his bat. 1 extra run is still a Mystery? And in the final two balls, England was unable to cross the 241 scorecards set by New Zealand.

While the match was tied; the final twist had come down to super over. Where England bat first and scored 15 runs in the 6 balls. Before the semi-final, if you look closely these two teams were out of the league. This is the game, England were considered nearly taken out at one stage and NZ just sneaked in on NRR...Here they are playing for the trophy. Genuinely enough the association is called ODI, it is about that 'one day'.
No first or succeeding day truly matters. While New Zealand came down to chase the very target of 16 runs in 6 balls. Six on the Second ball of Jofra Archer Overlooks New Zealand will Seal the trophy. Guptill was going to face the final ball of the over. Semi-final Dhoni Run out Guptill thrashed many things with that Runout. Now we want you to spoil the England Party. At least I never wanted England to win the trophy. Guptill hit the ball to deep mid-wicket and looked to scamper back the golden run but Jason Roy was the culprit who threw the ball to the butler end while Guptill felt short of the final run. At this point, I thought finally we will be going to see any other super over as Super over was also tied. While we all witnessed on the lord's screen the Champion was England on the basis of boundaries rule. As much as I remember boundary rule is applicable In T-20 matches only. For ODI there has to be no other rule it can be no of wickets. Still, a Mystery Why the ICC has chosen the Boundaries Idea?
Final Thoughts:
