The Indian cricket team has been one of the best teams in the world fir a number of years and thus as a result have won a lot of test matches and some by huge margins and outclassed their opponents and they made the record books and gave joy to the fans of the Indian team over the years.

India has been playing test cricket since 1932 and in these 89 years India has won a lot of matches and against big teams and won some matches by an innings and they were etched in history. Let’s look at the top 5 Biggest victories of India in test cricket history.


1. Win by an innings and 272 runs against West Indies (2018):

This test match became a part of history as team India won by its biggest ever margin in test cricket history. It was a test match at Rajkot against West Indies and while batting first, India batted and batted and all of their batters came to the party as Prithvi Shaw, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja got hundreds in the same innings as well as Cheteshwar Pujara and Rishabh Pant got great half centuries and while bowling all the three spinners picked up most of the wickets and they combined bowled out the West Indies twice and comfortably won the match by an innings and 272 runs.

 

2. Win by an innings and 262 Runs against Afghanistan (2018): 


This was the first test match for Afghanistan against India and it was a very big thing for the whole country of Afghanistan and it was very emotional as well. When the game got going, India were too good for the Afghan team in the test match as they only batted once and their openers Shikhar Dhawan and Murali Vijay scored impressive hundreds and KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya got hair centuries and Afghanistan got bowled out twice very cheaply as all the Indian bowlers chipped in with wickets and India won quite easily in the end

 

3. Win by an innings and 239 Runs against Bangladesh (2007): 


This test match was historical in more ways than one as not only did India beat Bangladesh by an innings and 239 runs but all the top four batters in the Indian batting order for hundreds and that has only happened one other time in test cricket. While batting first , Dinesh Karthik, Wasim Jaffer, Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar all got amazing hundreds and took India past 600 and in the bowling department the star was Zaheer Khan picking up 7 wickets in the match and was adjudged the man of the match. It was a commanding performance by the Indian team.

 

4. Win by an innings and 239 Runs against Sri Lanka (2017): 


In this match Sri Lanka batters first but only managed to score a mere 205 runs and all the Indian bowlers picked up wickets and then came the batting and the captain Virat Kohli led the way with an outstanding 213 runs and Murali Vijay, Cheteshwar Pujara and Rohit Sharma got hundreds to their name and in Sri Lanka in their second innings got bowled out for only 166 this rounding off another great test match for the Indian team who are unstoppable at home.

 

5. Win by an innings and 219 Runs against Australia (1998): 


To do this to the great Australia team of the 1990s is an astounding achievement and India totally destroyed the Aussies in this test match. While batting first the Australian batting line-up could only score 233 with Javagal Srinath,Anil Kumble and Sourav Ganguly picking up 3 wickets a piece and then came the Indian batting and they just kept piling on the runs with Mohammad Azharuddin leading the way with an amazing innings of 163 and he was ably supported by the rest of the batting order and they scored 633 runs in their first innings and while batting second ,The Aussies got bundled out for just 181 with Anil Kumble picking up 5 wickets and winning this match for India rather comfortably and this was a statement victory as well.
