Indian shooters have continued to shine at the Asian Games 2023 as the Indian men’s 50m rifle 3 positions team won the gold medal by shattering the World Record. Meanwhile, the individual event experienced one silver medal for India after a heartbreak.
Asian Games 2023: Men’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions Team Event (Shooting) – India broke the World Record to win the gold medal
On Friday (September 29), in the men’s 50m rifle 3 positions team event at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou (China), team India created a new World Record to win the gold medal. Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, Akhil Sheoran, and Swapnil Kusale were the members of the Golden Indian team.
While the previous World Record was 1761 points by the United States in 2022, the Indian men’s team secured eight more points, 1769 points. It was India’s first Asiad gold medal in the men’s 50m rifle 3 positions team event.
The silver medalists China also broke the previous World Record (1763 points), and the Republic of Korea earned the bronze medal with 1748 points.
In the individual performances, both Swapnil (33x) and Aishwary (27x) scored the highest 591 points each, while Akhil earned 587 points (30x).

However, Swapnil had a heartbreak in the men’s 50m rifle 3 positions individual event. Although he was leading till the first standing event with 410.7 points, his next shot 7.6 dropped him to the fourth position. Despite managing 10.5 and 10.1, the fourth-positioned Swapnil missed out on the medal competition after getting eliminated with 438.9 points, just a 0.1-point difference from the third-positioned shooter.
While Chinese Du Linshu won the gold medal with the new Asian Games Record 460.6 points, Indian Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar won silver with 459.7 points. Meanwhile, another Chinese shooter Tain Jiaming won the bronze medal with 448.3 points.
