Royal Challengers Bangalore Auction strategy and Team Analysis

It is now time to talk about one of the most popular teams in the IPL which is the Royal Challengers Bangalore and if there was a team which has been the most unlucky it has been this one because even after having so many great teams over the years they have never been able to win an IPL title and that is the one thing which the team and their fans want. They went into the auction with Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell and Mohammad Siraj as their retention.

RCB has always been a team which all the fans of the IPL are keen to watch whether it be RCB fans or fans of the other teams as they had the best batting order and seeing them all go berserk was a treat to all batting lovers. They did decently well in the auction although their batting this time is a weakness which we will talk about later. So, let’s discuss their auction strategy and do a team analysis.

Auction Strategy :

The RCB think tank at the mega auction wanted a good all round team which would be able to seriously compete against the other teams and maybe win their first IPL title so they had a lot of work to do in those 2 days. They got Faf Du Plessis in a good buy and most likely he will be their short term captain , other than him and Virat, they were not able to get good batters in their team but their all rounders list is very impressive as first they got Wanindu Hasaranga from Sri Lanka and then they got back Harshal Patel for over 10 crores which he deserved and Sherfane Rutherford and a young Mahipal Lomror will add depth to their squad. They even got good fast bowlers like Josh Hazlewood from Australia but their spin attack is so so. So a decent auction for the RCB team.

Team Analysis :

If we look at the team and give our general thoughts then it looks like a weaker team as compared to the previous years and they might not have got the team to win the IPL this year as well. So, let’s do a SWOT analysis of RCB.

Strengths:

Their biggest strength is still Virat Kohli and with the addition of Faf Du Plessis it will only get stronger at the top of the order so they will get good starts. Then their all rounders are a very big strength of the RCB team as they Harshal Patel, Wanindu Hasaranga and the others will be able to do both the departments well and their fast bowling quotient is also very strong. So they have a few strengths to their team just like the other teams in the IPL.

Weaknesses:

This RCB team has some glaring weaknesses and the batting order is the biggest one as they don’t have any any good batters after the first two batters so they will not be able to post big scores and their spin attack is not good at all so the opposition batters will go after them everytime. They need to sort out their weaknesses soon.

Opportunities:

The biggest opportunity for this team is to show that they don’t only depend on Virat Kohli everytime and the young batters should step up and show that they are also capable and Harshal Patel has the opportunity to follow up his performance from last year with an even better one and their spin attack can show that they should not be taken lightly by anyone.

Threat:

A lot of threats face then such as the bowling attacks of the other 9 teams will look at the fragile batting order of the RCB team and realize that after the first two batters they can easily get the others out and similarly the batters of the other teams can go after their spinners and post big totals every match and make it difficult for RCB to win.
