Delhi Capitals Auction strategy and Team Analysis

Delhi Capitals are a team which went into the auction with a clear mind and strategy and they already had retained 4 quality players before the auction in Rishabh Pant, Prithvi Shaw, Akshar Patel and Anrich Nortje so they had a good core of players and just needed some more quality players and Their work at the mega auction was one of the best out of all the 10 teams.

Delhi Capitals in the years previous had some great squads who were unable to win the IPL trophy and their bowling attack was the best in the tournament yet they failed at the Knockouts stage of the IPL so they needed those players who will be able to go that extra step and win the title for their fans going forward. Let’s look at their auction strategy and do a detailed SWOT analysis of Delhi Capitals.

Auction Strategy :

They had one of the best auction strategies at the 2 day mega auction and their team is proof of it , firstly they got the deal of the auction when they got David Warner for 6.25 crores which was the steal of the auction as the quality of player he is so Delhi did very well and they did not stop there , one of their best things was that the players that they didn’t want ,they just raised the prices of the players so that the other teams have lesser purse than them. Their bowling attack is again one of the best as they bought quality Bowlers all through in Shardul Thakur, Lungi Ngidi at his base price, Chetan Sakariya, Mustafizur Rahman and Kuldeep Yadav which is a very good left arm bowling attack in itself.

Team Analysis :

A detailed team analysis will follow but a quick general thoughts is that they again have a team that can be serious title contenders and finally win the IPL this time as they mostly have all bases covered so if they play to their potential then they will create a lot of problems for the other teams.

Strengths:

This team has a lot of strengths and the first one is its Indian core as they already had Rishabh Pant, Prithvi Shaw, Akshar Patel and they got Yash Dhull, Shardul Thakur, Chetan Sakariya and Kuldeep Yadav etc. Next they have great foreign players like David Warner, Lungi Ngidi and a great all rounder in Mitchell Marsh which was again a steal deal so if they play the right 11 and play to their full potential then they will be hard to stop.

Weaknesses:

This Delhi team does not have a lot if weaknesses but the one thing which can be pointed out that they don’t have a good Indian all round player like Mitchell Marsh and Shardul Thakur is not that good of a bowler so they only have Mitchell Marsh in that department and they right hand bowling attack is a little short as they only have lefties so variation could be an issue.

Opportunities:

This team is full of opportunities for the team as well as the players. David Warner will be eager to prove that he is still one of the best in the world and the 4 retained players will be eager to show that the team did the right thing by retaining them. Yash Dhull has a great opportunity to stand out and have a crack at the Indian team . Kuldeep Yadav and Chetan Sakariya can show the selectors what they are missing with a lot of opportunities.

Threat:

All the other 9 teams will be a significant threat to them as they will come fully prepared to take on this good Delhi side and they can attack the fifth and sixth Bowler of the team as they do not have a lot of options there so Delhi will have to be careful of not taking anyone lightly.
