During the popular Ballon d’Or ceremony, France Football also announces the Ballon d'Or Féminin award winner, which is also known as the Women's Ballon d'Or. Just like the men’s Ballon d’Or award, the Ballon d'Or Féminin has been awarded to the highest voted among the women’s professional soccer players.
Unlike men’s Ballon d’Or, the Women's Ballon d'Or is very new. This award was first time introduced by France Football in the 2018 edition. Since then, it has been celebrated every year, except for 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Just like men’s Ballon d’Or, France Football priorly announces the nominees for the yearly Ballon d'Or Féminin award. While it started with a 15-member nominee in 2018, the next three editions experienced 20-member nominees (2019, 2021, and 2022).
However, from the 2023 edition, the number of nominated players has been raised to 30.
