The Copa America is the premier men's football competition in which CONMEBOL national teams compete. It is the world's oldest and longest-running international football competition, as well as the third most popular. The competition determines the South American champions. Teams from North America and Asia have been invited to compete since the 1990s.
Since the tournament's inception in 1916, eight of the 10 CONMEBOL national sides have won at least once, with just Ecuador and Venezuela remaining undefeated. With 15 titles, Uruguay leads the tournament's history, followed by Argentina with 14 titles and the current champion, Brazil, with nine titles. Argentina has hosted the tournament the most times, having hosted the first edition in 1916. (9). The US is the first non-CONMEBOL country to have hosted the event, having done so in 2016.
After being postponed from last summer and then shifted from co-hosts Colombia and Argentina, the Copa America 2021 will be hosted in Brazil. The competition, which was postponed from last year owing to the COVID-19 outbreak, will now include ten teams after Australia and Qatar withdrew owing to fixture congestion. Argentina and Colombia were supposed to host the competition together, however, the CONMEBOL confirmed that Brazil will now host the full event.

Argentina has been ruled out of hosting the Copa America 2021 tournament due to an increase in coronavirus cases in the country. Colombia had previously been ruled out as a host owing to the current unrest in the country. The Maracana and Estadio Nilton Santos in Rio, as well as the Estadio Nacional Mane Garrincha in Brasilia, the Arena Pantanal in Cuiaba, and the Estadio Olimpico in Goiania, will host the event. The fixtures were also rearranged. The hosts, Brazil, will play first at the Mane Garrincha Stadium. The Copa America 2021 final will be held at Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro. The 10-team Copa America will now be split into two groups, each with five teams. Only one team from each group will advance to the knockout stages, while eight teams will proceed to the quarter-finals.
