The Gameweek 7 deadline is approaching, and FPL Managers are preparing their squads accordingly. Mvvbany clubs' starting lineups may have changed after the Champions League and Europa League midweek matches. With all the injuries and team news in mind, FPL managers will scramble to put together the strongest squad possible before the Saturday deadline.

Our top five defender choices for Gameweek 7 are as follows:

1. Marcos Alonso (Chelsea vs Southampton) - £5.9m

The Chelsea fixture swing begins right now, so it's a good idea to triple upon them. Marcos Alonso is a risky choice, but we've been caught up in the Marcos momentum against a Southampton team that hasn't scored in three games and has conceded high-quality opportunities in Alonso at the back-post zone. This season, Marcos Alonso has established himself as the starting left-back, something few expected. He has a goal and an assist this season, with 6 Shots in the Box, 4 Shots on Target, and an xG of 1.06. With an xA of 0.71, he has also generated 12 chances.

2. Nelson Semedo (Wolves vs Newcastle United) - £4.9m

Last Gameweek, the Wolves kept their second clean sheet of the season. They've played well defensively, with 36 Shots in the Box (4th), 6 Big Chances (2nd), and an xGC of 7.1. (5th). Wolves against Newcastle appear to be a sound bet for a home win, although another 1-0 or low-scoring game is possible. With Nelson Semedo looking active and Raul Jimenez scoring after a lengthy injury layoff, picking these two players appears to be a foregone conclusion. He has 5 Shots in the Box, 2 Big Chances, and an xG of 1 in only five games, while also creating 3 chances with an xA of 0.30. He also has the most passes in the final third among his teammates. The match against Newcastle offers a fantastic opportunity for attacking returns and the possibility of a clean sheet.

3. Aaron Cresswell (West Ham vs Brentford) - £5.5m

West Ham have had an incredible start to this season's Premier League, currently sitting in seventh place after six gameweeks. Cresswell, who cost 5.5 million dollars before the season began, was one of the budget selections in FPL before the season began, and he has proven them wrong. So far, he has one goal and one assist, with an xG of 0.34 and an xA of 0.37, making him West Ham's most offensive defender. This is one of those games that David Moyes' side might easily win with a clean sheet or it could be a high-scoring contest.

4. Marcal (Wolves vs Newcastle United) - £4.6m

From the outset, the Wolves have been one of the most outstanding teams. However, with only two wins out of six games, this has not resulted in points. Wolves will hope to bounce back against Newcastle United after losing their previous encounter against Brentford. Marcal is a low-cost defensive option with high potential for returns, making him one of the top defensive selections. Marcal will have another chance to continue his fine form against Newcastle on Saturday.

5. Matthew Lowton (Burnley vs Norwich) - £4.4m

Although Burnley are without a shutout, we've chosen Matthew Lowton as our defensive selection, as Daniel Farke has yet to achieve a satisfactory mix between goal danger and defensive stability. Burnley and Matthew Lowton have the best chance of keeping a clean sheet this week, as the bookies put them as sixth favorites to maintain a clean sheet in Gameweek 7. (38 percent). Lowton is a good value at £4.4m and also poses an attacking threat. With an xA of 0.68, he has generated 8 chances.
