Austria finished top of their group in a major tournament for the first time since the 1978 World Cup despite facing two powerhouses in France and the Netherlands. Jubilations are also for Turkey as they have managed to replace their disappointing group stage exit last time and progress to a third Euro knockout in their history. Vincenzo Montella's side entered the tournament under pressure but the 3-1 win over Georgia brought life into the side. Although the 3-0 loss to group winners Portugal was painful, it became a distant memory quickly with the Turks eliminating the nine-men Czech Republic with a 2-1 dramatic win in the final group game. Hakan Calhanoglu scored a flashy opener in the 51st minute with Cenk Tosun coming up with a stoppage-time winner after the lead was cancelled by Tomas Soucek past the hour mark. Turkey will draw motivation from the victory to make a place in the quarterfinals eventually but they have to do it without their suspended star from Inter Milan. Montella's side has an edge over Austria with nine wins to seven in 17 meetings so far but their opponents are in fine form going into the fixture.
