The hosts Zimbabwe not only maintained their winning streak in their last Group A game of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2023 but also set up many top ODI records in that game. After scoring their record ODI total against the USA, Zimbabwe also recorded the second-largest ODI win (by runs).
Zimbabwe and USA faced each other at Harare Sports Club (Harare) last Monday (26 June). After USA chose to field first, Zimbabwe scored 408/6 in 50 overs. It was their first 400+ ODI total as the Chevrons became the seventh team to record at least one 400+ ODI total.
Sean Williams: 174 off 101 balls
During that first innings, the openers set up a 56-run partnership as Joylord Gumbie scored 78 off 103 balls (five fours), and Innocent Kaia scored 32 runs. Stand-in captain Sean Williams slammed 174 runs off just 101 balls with the help of 21 fours and five sixes. Also, Sikandar Raza (48 off 27 balls; five fours and two sixes) and Ryan Burl (47 off 16 balls; three fours and four sixes) had furious 40s.

Williams recorded Zimbabwe’s second-fastest ODI century. Sikandar Raza holds this record with a 54-ball 100 (vs Netherlands at Harare on 20 June 2023).
Williams recorded Zimbabwe’s fastest ODI 150 runs. The previous record was 137-ball 150 by Charles Coventry (vs Bangladesh at Bulawayo on 16 August 2009).
Williams recorded the seventh fastest 150 runs in ODI history.
Williams recorded the third-highest ODI individual score by a Zimbabwe cricketer. The top two in this list are Charles Coventry’s 194 not out (vs Bangladesh at Bulawayo on 16 August 2009) and Hamilton Masakadza’s 178 not out (vs Kenya at Harare on 18 October 2009).
Williams also recorded the highest ODI score by a Zimbabwe captain. The previous record was 138 runs by Brendan Taylor (vs India at Auckland on 14 March 2015).
Meanwhile, Williams’ 174 was the seventh-highest individual score by an ODI captain.
Zimbabwe: 408/6 in 50 overs
Now, we are talking about a few stats on Zimbabwe’s mammoth ODI total of 408 runs.
It was the highest ODI total for Zimbabwe. Their previous record was 351/7 (50 overs) against Kenya at Mombasa on 29 January 2009.
After Australia and South Africa, Sri Lanka, India, New Zealand and England, Zimbabwe became the seventh team in ODI history to manage at least one 400+ total. The other Test-playing nations, West Indies, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Ireland and Afghanistan haven’t achieved this feat yet.
Zimbabwe won by 304 runs; USA 104 all out
At chasing, the USA were bundled out for only 104 runs in just 25.1 overs as Zimbabwe won by 304 runs. Only Abhishek Paradkar (24 runs), Jessy Singh (21 runs) and Gajanand Singh (13 runs) managed to reach double-digit scores. Here are some crucial stats on Zimbabwe’s giant winning margin.
