Just in the fifth game of the BBL 12, Sydney Thunder experienced a shocking result, where the hosts not only suffered a 124-run defeat against Adelaide Strikers but were also bundled out for the record-lowest T20 total – 15 runs.
It was the second game in the BBL 12 for both Adelaide Strikers and Sydney Thunder, while Thunder also started their home-game journey in this BBL season through this game. Both teams’ confidences were strong due to their wins in their respective tournament openers.
Strikers’ captain Peter Siddle chose to bat first at Sydney Showground Stadium (Sydney) after winning the toss in that historic T20 match. However, the Strikers struggled in the first innings and scored 139/9 in 20 overs, majorly thanks to Chris Lynn (36) and Colin de Grandhomme (33). Apart from Gurinder Sandhu (2/28), Daniel Sams (2/23) and Brendan Doggett’s (2/25) two wickets each, Fazalhaq Farooqi also scalped three wickets (3/20).
Sydney Thunder: For the 1st time, all the 11 batters failed to manage 5 runs in a T20 innings
In reply, Thunder were bundled out for just 15 runs in only 5.5 overs as their highest scorer was the no.10 batter Brendan Doggett (4). Doggett was also the only batter in that innings to hit a boundary.
It was the 17th time in T20 history when all the 11 batters failed to reach 10 runs in an innings, but the very first time in T20 cricket history when all the 11 batters, along with the extras, failed to manage at least 5 runs in an innings.
While Henry Thornton had the bowling figures of 2.3-1-3-5, and Wes Agar ended with the bowling figures of 2-0-6-4, Matthew Short also bagged one wicket in his only over in the match (1/5). Thornton’s 5/3 are now the fourth-best bowling figures in BBL history.
