The first night of WrestleMania 40 is in the books, and it is safe to say that WWE is in a totally new era under Paul Levesque. The opening intro was changed completely, and it is way better than the original one. The show was incredible, and the matches were great, with only one match that was not good at all. WrestleMania 40 had over 72,500 fans in attendance, and the wrestlers were feeling the cold because it was 11 degrees Celsius at the arena and the winds were blowing as well. WrestleMania 40 Sunday is left, and the matches left are great too.
Let’s look at the results of WrestleMania 40 on Saturday.
Rhea Ripley beat Becky Lynch for the Women's World Championship
This was the first match for WrestleMania 40, and it was the perfect match to start it all. Rhea Ripley vs Becky Lynch was a very big match, and since they were not in the main event, it was only right that they were the opener. Becky Lynch was sick, and she also had a bad throat. They had an absolute barn burner of a match that was 17 minutes long. They both had great entrances, and then they beat each other with all their big moves, and the fans were into this match. It was physical, but Rhea Ripley gave two riptides to Becky Lynch, and she retained her championship.
Awesome Truth, Austin Theory and Grayson Waller won the six-pack ladder match
There were two sets of tag team champions that were crowned at WrestleMania 40. This was the six-pack ladder match for the undisputed WWE tag team titles. This match was 17:30 minutes long, and all 12 wrestlers that were in this match got the opportunity to shine, and they made the most of the opportunity. Triple H gave them a lot of time. The teams hit each other with ladders and all other objects. First, Austin Theory and Grayson Waller won the SmackDown tag team titles, and then a few minutes later, it was R Truth who won the Raw tag team titles for Awesome Truth. It was the first win for R Truth at WrestleMania. It was a really fun match.
Rey Mysterio and Andrade vs Santos Escobar and Dominik Mysterio
It was the third match on the show. It was the tag team match between the lucha wrestlers. It was Santos Escobar and Dominik Mysterio on one side and Rey Mysterio and Andrade on the other. It was a very good match where Rey Mysterio gave all three young wrestlers in this match a lot to do, and he was the perfect mentor. He won the match after 11 minutes, with the help of Jason Kelce.
Jey Uso vs Jimmy Uso
It was the worst match of the night and one of the worst matches in WrestleMania history. It was the perfect opportunity for the two brothers to have a match they could be proud of years from now. It was an 11-minute snooze feature, and it only involved superkicks. They do not have great chemistry with each other.
Bianca Belair, Jade Cargill, and Naomi beat Damage Ctrl
Next was the match that brought the fans back after the previous bad match. It was the perfect representation of black women and how strong they can be. It was Damage Ctrl against the superteam. The match lasted only 8 minutes, but it was entertaining, and these women showed the crowd how to have a good match in a limited time. After this, it will be interesting to see where Jade Cargill and Bianca Belair go from here.
Sami Zayn beat Gunther for the Intercontinental Championship
This was the best and most shocking moment of the night, and this was the best match of the night to that point. It was Sami Zayn vs Gunther for the Intercontinental Championship. Sami Zayn was doubting himself every time, and even before his entrance, he was not sure, but something changed during the match. Gunther was dominant throughout the match, and Sami Zayn was taking it all. At one point, Gunther could have won the match, but he chose not to pin Sami Zayn. Later in the match, it was Sami Zayn who hit a BrainBustah on the champion, and then he hit him with two Helluva Kicks and won the Intercontinental Championship. It was not expected at all. It was a 16-minute all-time classic.
The Rock and Roman Reigns beat Seth Rollins and Cody Rhodes
It was finally time for the main event, and it was the second-longest match in the history of WrestleMania, at 45 minutes. This record will most likely be broken at WrestleMania Sunday. All four men got incredible entrances at WrestleMania. The match got off to a slow start, and they were building to something great. And as the match went on, the spots got crazier. The Rock threatened the referee that if he did not listen to him, he would be fired. The match slowly picked up in gear, and then all hell broke loose. Finishers were being hit and kicked out, and tables were being broken, as were the bodies of all four men. Roman Reigns accidentally speared The Rock, but in the end, it was The Bloodline who won the incredible match. Roman Reigns vs Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania Sunday will be Bloodline Rules. The Rock was amazing in his first full match in 12 years.
