The match card for WrestleMania 40 was turning out to be absolutely perfect for the WWE as well as the fans. The WWE universe was extremely excited for the 40th anniversary of WrestleMania taking place in the city of brotherly love Philadelphia PA on 6th and 7th April 2024. The matches for WrestleMania 40 were set in stone and it was all looking perfect till 2 days before the Royal Rumble. Till the 26th of January, WrestleMania 40 was just the way it was supposed to be. However after this date everything has come crashing down and now Triple H and WWE have a difficult job on their hands.
Let’s talk about the lack of star power at WrestleMania 40
WrestleMania 40 has suddenly lost its shine
The match card of WrestleMania 40 before the 26th of January was supposed to look like it could have been the greatest card in the history of WrestleMania. It was supposed to be Cody Rhodes vs Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins vs CM Punk, Brock Lesnar vs Gunther, Bayley vs Iyo Sky, Becky Lynch vs Rhea Ripley. These were supposed to be the 5 big matches. Out of this 2 will most likely still happen but the other 3 have been lost completely. First this bombshell article dropped on Wall Street Journal that has Janet Grant allege Vince McMahon that he did things to her which cannot be talked about. Vince McMahon sent her obscene messages and it exploded like a ball of fire. Not only that, the article also said that Brock Lesnar was involved in this scam in one way or another. This article was the downfall of Brock Lesnar and therefore Brock Lesnar was out of WrestleMania 40.
Still there was star power for WrestleMania 40 but the Royal Rumble dealt a body blow to this notion. In the Men’s Royal Rumble Match, CM Punk got injured and he tore his right triceps and he was also out of WrestleMania 40. This was something that was unexpected and the lack of CM Punk at WrestleMania was a body blow of star power. This also meant that Seth Rollins lost his chance to main event WrestleMania. 2 big matches from WrestleMania 40 were gone but still the main event of Night 2 of WrestleMania 40 was around. However on SmackDown, that also went away as The Rock came back to WWE and Cody Rhodes was out of the main event of WrestleMania. WrestleMania 40 has added the star power of The Rock but at what cost. This could have been handled in a much better way.
The only positive side of this mess are the women. The 2 big Women’s Matches will still happen at WrestleMania 40. It was announced on Friday that Bayley will face Iyo Sky for the WWE Women’s Championship. This match will be personal and it could be the best women’s match in WrestleMania history. And on the Raw side it will be Rhea Ripley against Becky Lynch for the Women’s World Championship. The star power for the women will be there. There could have been more star power as Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Undertaker and other legends could have been at WrestleMania but now it seems highly unlikely. The stars that will be at WrestleMania 40 for the men are Roman Reigns, The Rock, Seth Rollins, Cody Rhodes, Gunther. However the feeling will not be the same Unless WWE does something drastic in these 2 months before WrestleMania 40.
